New camper build w/ shower

Postby mark & ginger » Sun Jul 06, 2014 5:29 pm

I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for how to build a custom shower pan in my new trailer to hold up to traveling and all the moving and road vibrations . Any help would be a big help

you might try building a lexan shower pan. glue the walls to the base with polycarbonate glue. if you build wood trim around the edges, it should work fine.

I assume you'll be draining to a grey water tank outside the trailer?

the only slightly tricky part might be getting a nice 'tilt' of the base to your drain hole. an easy way might be to use some super-thin luaun for the faces, build the sides wth 1x 1/2 strips cut in triangles to give the desired angle. glue the four sides to the luaun, flip it over and fill with expanding foam insulation. put anonther facing piece once the foam has dried level. this method won't work so well if your drain hole is not in a corner.

Curious about this myself. In my case as in probably most others that are planning to build the space is not conducive to the standard shower pans.

I think a good approach would be to have a stainless steel one,
with sufficient slope included, and using an end trough type drain
in it. I would make it of actual human usable size as well. I'd have
it installed in [under?] the floor with a liftup/foldup floor panel
covering it when not in use. You can install a surround type shower
curtain rod or track on the ceiling above the shower area. I don't
think it would be excessively costly as there is not that much material
involved and the fabrication of it should be straightforward.

While this is not what I described, this is another approach [great idea
to me] to the problem of providing a usable sized shower area in a 'smaller'
TT. Here is a link to a South African Off Road Caravan that has a novel
approach to providing a shower area with a molded in, low profile, shower
pan as a part of the floor. They use a SS chain bottom-weighted [within the hem]
shower curtain to keep the curtain within the shower pan perimeter lip.

cricket trailers also have the shower 'pan' molded into the floor, so no floor space is taken up for the shower (just clear the floor/walls at the shower area, deploy the curtain, wipe down when you're done).

cricket doesn't have any photos on their web site, but they say there are some on their facebook page.

I've got facebook blocked, so can't confirm there are any shots of the shower area.

don't waste your time watching the video on their web site. it is content-free as a beer commercial.

I made my shower pan from epoxy mixed with fairing filler. May not be the cheapest, but I had the stuff left over. Since the floor *is* the shower pan I don't have to worry about water seeping under a pan and rotting the floor. Lots of pics in my album.

I love that shower. :D
