Hello everyone

Postby teddy » Tue Jul 08, 2014 6:11 pm

Please let me introduce myself.
My name is Dennis, i'm 32, and from Holland, so i hope my english is at least understandable for you all, as it is probably a weird mix of american english, uk english and gibberish.

A few weekends a year my friends and i go out for a weekend of combineracing (yep the harvester kind) and i sleep in the back of my small VW Caddy (no idea what its called on the other side of the big pond), and to be honest, it sucks. So i'd like something to sleep in, but caravans are ugly white boxes, with no appeal at all.
The solution? You guessed it (else you wouldn't read this) a teardrop. I'm going to build one. Why? i really like the classic american stuff, say the fourties, fifties and sixties.
A trailer frame is donated by my kind neighbours, it houses a Chateau 330 caravan at the moment (that's about 10'7" i think) and with a little bit of grinding will make a nice platform for my teardrop. In my mind it will be aluminium skinned, but nothing is set in stone yet. I really like the classic teardrop shape, but it might be out of my leage, and i'll maybe go for the simplified version.
I haven't got too much experience with woodworking though, so there will be a lot of trial and error, and reading stuff here. I've found solutions to a lot of problems already, but be ashured, im going to need a lot more, so please be patient with me and point me in the right direction if i can't find the right topic.

Anyway, you all seem a nice and helpful bunch of people, with very cool trailers  and if your in the area, drop by my workshop for beer or a cup of joe if you like.

Welcome, love to see all these countries come together here. If you haven't already noticed us americans can speak our own gibberish form of English, yours is probably better than some of ours.

Thanks for the warm welcome, much appreciated.
The american gibberish isn't too much of a problem, usually reading out loud gives it meaning :-)

I've been reading up on the forum the last week, searching for solutions (some of them for problems i didn't even knew i had), looking at pictures and drawing my design. Most of it is "borrowed" from other TD's, i hope y'all ;) dont mind me copying ideas and designs.

Teddy,
Yes they are the same Blue Ridge Mtns, but John Denver was referring more to West Virginia.

I live within sight of them in Virginia.
