Hi from the UK

Hi,
I'm Tlag (aka Graham). I'm in Coventry in the UK.

I'm currently converting a JDM Subaru Legacy twin turbo into a single turbo track toy.

It started in my possession looking like this :

And to be fair, the outside looks very much the same. Under the bonnet (hood :D ) is a different story.

All work done by myself and the engine built from the ground up.

Anyway, I was at a weekend car show last weekend and slept in a tent. On the Sunday morning, I swore that was the last time I would sleep in a tent. Looking around the camping field, I saw a small teardrop camper and decided that it was the way to go. On talking to the owner, I found it was made by a German company and was way outside my budget.

Back at home that evening I discovered the self build versions which are not too common in the UK. Once my car is complete (another few weeks should see it done), I will have time and space to start my build.

Next year, I will be attending a lot of car shows with the car, so it seems I will make good use of the teardrop, plus weekends away with the wife .

As they seem quite popular in the US, I may actually see a few when I come over in September :)

Welcome! With the skills to build up your sube, you should have no trouble building a teardrop.

I should caution you, building your own is not exactly inexpensive. Sure, the materials cost are low, but if you also add in the labor cost, then you will approach the cost of the commercial ones.

On the other side, if you think working with your hands is an enjoyable exercise and are willing to donate your time to the project, then you will have succeeded in creating an inexpensive camping adventure!

I had a fantastic time building mine. Now I am having a hard time transitioning from thoughts of building to actually using. During my build, I would spend hours researching how best to put it together. Now, I need to give that up and spend the time researching where to go!

Oh, and I have a Subaru Impreza. Wonderful cars.

Thanks for the welcome.

I just read your build thread. Absolutely superb. I can only hope I can get somewhere near the quality of yours.

I know it's probably going to cost more than I think it will (what project dosnt :) ), but at least I will be able to build exactly what I want and not what the manufacturers want us to buy.

Putting my time into it is not an issue and it will be good to change my skill set from engine building.
