Greetings-
Found this site a couple of days ago in hoping I can get some a information and advice on building my own 40's style travel trailer using the Harbor Freight 4x8 heavy duty trailer.
Originally, I was having a 1948 Crown 12 ft trailer restored and then the guy restoring it took off, with the trailer, and can't be found. It's a long story, and I really don't want to dwell on it right now. I just want to start fresh and try to make one myself because I'm never going to find one like that anymore. Why do I want a 1940's style trailer? Because I have a 1947 Plymouth that I would like to pull with it and do some traveling and camping.
Anyway, I was looking at the vintage plans on this site and was wondering if I could make a body, like that of the Lil' Guy
http://tnttt.com/VintagePlans/pln_lilguy.pdf
and use the HF trailer, possibly adding a foot or two in length, but still keeping within the required weight of the trailer. I would like to keep the floor level and not sunken in, so that would mean raising the roof line a little more. Would like to have a galley w/room for sink, stove and ice box, like the crown had, as well as room for a two-person bed and a dining nook that also makes into a bed.
I guess before going any farther, I need to know from some of you out there just how far I can go with this HF 4x8 heavy duty frame and if my plan is even feasible.
Thanks,
Darin
