New from Alberta, Canada with my ambition

Hello, new member here joining on to learn and probably get support along the way.

I have been interested in tear drops for a while and have decided to build my own. The wife is on board with it and pushing me to get on it.

I'll post here my rough starving artist sketch of what I am intending.

Things like frame and wall thickness are not exact to scale and what not. Windows and roof vents are not shown. But its the idea of what I have in mind. A little larger and more ambitious than most drops but I think it is doable. I need to keep it light enough to remain car tow-able which I don't think should be too much trouble.

I am looking to build it on an old tent trailer, hopefully with a 10ft long frame.

I will have many questions along the way which hopefully can be solved through searching and starting other threads. For example I'm somewhat confused about how the roof seals to the walls. I know there is lots to learn about doors and windows. Skin covering is a large area of doubt for me. I also don't quite understand how people make their rear hatch (and also front in my case) seal out the water. All things to learn. I have my own hatch idea by making it like a cars trunk with drain rails and a gasket to seal around. That will be a thread of its own however.

I am no stranger to towing with a car. Here is a pic of my ol' Sunfire hauling a 1200 pound load half way across Canada back in 2007. This towing situation worked out competently and I sure will do so again. This car is approaching end of life with 358,000km (222,500mi) on the the clock, but will be replaced with something of similar capacity.

Welcome to the Forum from a fellow Canadian.
Wish you were closer, as I have a tent trailer that I would be willing to sell cheap to someone wishing to use the chassis and other components for a Teardrop build.

That is a shame, as a suitable tent trailer seems to be a difficult hurdle in this matter. Maybe I'll get lucky and someone closer on the forum would come along.

Beautiful build by the way. I consider myself a gear head but had to look up what a "Simca Vedette" is exactly. Very cool. :applause:
