Pretty simple. Warm or hot water often left over from making coffee or dishwashing, some soap or brushless shaving cream, a safety razor and about two minutes time. Only about 25 to 30 percent of men in America regularly use an electric razor anyway.

Yeah, I don't shave normally so I don't see a reason to start just because I'm camping. Only two types of people don't have beards...women and children. :R

But to be serious about it, if I am in a shaving mood I just bring my electric razor along. That's what I use "normally" (normally being the 3 days a year I shave). It runs off of AA batteries so even without shore power I should be able to replace them and get it running.

I don't even use electricity to shave at home. Just a can of cream and a razor.

I am bearded.. long in the winter and trimmed in the summer.

There are a lot of options between a straight razor.. and electric.

Cream?!? I just shave in the shower.

Every electric razor I've had is rechargeable and last at least a week before needing recharging.
I always forget to bring it though.

I never use the crap in a can....that stuff is awful. Use a good shaving soap for a few months, get used to how a good wet shave smells, feels, and you'll throw the cans of gel away too. While traveling a few months ago, I used Barbasol or some other cheap foam....it smelled like a chemical factory.

I recommend a good brush for application, beaver if possible...barring that, a cheap shaving brush from the drug store is about $10....and the soap about $3...green boxes, they usually are next to each other in the shaving aisle. I THINK Williams I'd the company who makes them.

I also threw away the 5 blade heads...Gillette hasn't done any favors there either. A straight razor is awesome...but even as a barber, to one on myself is madness. I settle for a safety razor made by a German company called Mercur and a 2 sided safety razor. If you like disposable, bic is surprisingly good. Because of TSA, that's what I use when traveling....cheap and sharp.

The keys to a good shave is a hot and wet...I'll be happy to elaborate on that technique if anyone wants to know.

Seriously, I am a barber and have a good amount of wisdom for a good shave. I do use a straight razor just not on myself. The angles are difficult to obtain, and it's too easy to cut yourself...badly. For the DIY job, safety razor wins.

When recreationally camping....I shave Sunday morning in the shower at the showerhouse before going to Chiurch. Usually there isn't enough water to "do it right" so the results are less than optimal so just do the best you can as close to what you do the rest of the time.

Shaving is usually the one thing I miss while camping....a shave done right is a relaxing experience to be savored not a chore.

One more time bare with me.........

Very Very appropriate for this topic.......

I posted this 11-4-2008 and if you have read it I apologize but for the rest of you here is the post reposted....

At our fall Salamonie Lake gathering a couple years ago I told John Spratt about my 1st boy scout experience without power. Our Scout master Ed Forester (no kidding) asked us Scouts to find him a tree that had been hit by lightning. We scattered 4 - 5 directions and were to report back in 5 - 10 minutes. Well a tree WAS located ( Probably an old elm with blight) . The top was ratty and blasted out so Mr Forester said that it indeed had sustained a lightning strike. After his speach to convince us he pulled out his hunting knife and carved 2 small slits in the tree trunk and from a pouch he then produced his electric razor. He inserted the power cord into the 2 slots that had been carved, turned on his razor and started to shave to the total and absolute amazement of 10 - 12 of us 1st year scouts.

I wear a 'trimmed' beard year 'round; in summer well trimmed (1/4" or less). At home I shave my neck, & cheeks above the beard every other day. I've used a cordless rechargeable Norelco 'rotary' shaver for 40yrs, before that a Schick electric. Carry my shaver when on trips but only use it every 3-4 days (when the unshaven part begins to itch :D ). If I don't shave at least that often the unshaven part gets too long for the rotary heads & I hafta use the trimmer before I shave. Several years back I tried the 'full beard' route but it just didn't work for me. After 20yrs in the military I still kinda like a neat, trimmed look (for me only, have NO problem with how other folks do it...)

Why shave.... Think of all the time you waste every day doing it....
