New to Teardrops, need help with value of used

Postby mhutch2 » Sun Jul 27, 2014 11:54 pm

Hi all, I'm new on this forum but have been looking at Teardrops for a few months. I've considered building vs. buying new vs. buying used. The used teardrops I've looked at had prices all over the place. New ones are the same. Can anyone give me an idea if this one is a good value? Anything wrong with this brand? etc...

*deleted link - apparently the trailer is sold*

Not much informatin with the ad.
No year listed. No information about condition.

Seems to be a four wide by Little Guy.

First you should determine your budget. Review all listings you can find on craigslist, RV trader sites, Ebay, Look at all brands, attend a tearjerkers event.

Good luck

You couldn't built that one for the asking price.
If you go to see it make sure you look closely for water damage.
A member here had to replace one whole wall on a used Little Guy.

Hi there, I built my 4x4x8 about four years ago and it cost around $2,000. The plans I used said it could be done for around $700 but I wanted to use new stuff instead of found parts. I am planning a 5x5x10 and the cost is right around the same. My standard rule of thumb for evaluating the price I would charge for my work is 3 times the material expense equals the selling price. On more complicated work I charge 5 times the material. So, the most basic trailer I could build for $2,000 I would not sell for less then $6,000. $10,000 if it's tricked out. If you can and plan it to be for you, I would build my own because its not rocket science and if you need advise well here you are.
Enjoy, Chris

Thanks for the replies and advice. I'm waiting to hear from the seller and hopefully get more info. It's a ways away from me but might be worth checking out. I'll keep everyone posted.

I've got slightly over $3000 in my build and there's nothing fancy about it. While I did overbuild, I still had the trailer before I started building. From the picture posted, I don't think you could build it for the asking price.

So...I have a little more info about the trailer. It's a 2006 and built by a company called Little Trailer Company. I can't seem to find any info on this company. Has anyone heard of it? Still in business? Any info anyone can throw out would be greatly appreciated.

This link might interest you. Not sure it is of much use but interesting info though. Price and value are what someone is willing to pay for what they are happy with and fits your style. Bottom line is your not getting away with less than $2500 on a build with decent quality and closer to $3500 probably if you want "perks". The time and work involved in a build!? Priceless! IMO...yes, that trailer is nice and worth it. Is it for me...no, I wanted different for myself but I do like the looks of Little Guy styles. By what I have heard a lot of with Little Guy(or any other campers & trailers) is watch for water damage. Good luck with your search and enjoy what you get...probably wont be your last purchase.
