Any opinions on the T@G?

Postby wincrasher » Tue Jul 29, 2014 11:00 am

I like some of the features of this trailer. Not sure I dig how tall this is. Like the built in AC and the 12v refer. No drawer in galley, which is a downside I think.

I just got back from a car rally with the Miatas. I pulled my tent trailer with it. It worked out OK, but was ALOT of work setting up and tearing down (in appalling heat and humidity!).

This might work better, but is at the upper weight range of what I'm comfortable towing with my Miata. My Cricket Trailer is much too heavy for this car, so I'll be selling it.

Thoughts on this trailer?

I have a 1993 Miata (purchased when it was new!) but I've never towed with it. I did have a bike rack on it once and was amazed at the drag it created with a couple of mountain bikes on it. Based on that, I would be inclined to look at the MyPod. It shows to have air conditioning available. I have a small folding camp kitchen that I take everywhere, so this negates the need for a galley.

The newer cars have much more power - around 170hp.

I've towed around 1200 with it before, and it was fine, you just need to downshift before big hills as well as watch your stopping distances.
The tongue weight is the biggest issue. My tent trailer, fully loaded was around 100 lbs or so, and the back end of the car dipped about 1/2". The T@G looks about the same weight, and it looks like most all of your food and supplies would be stored in the rear behind the axle.

I've upgraded the springs on this car, so the tongue weight is not really an issue. I have a supercharger kit that I'm having installed, so I'll be another 70hp or so added.

I'm not planning to use this thing for extensive travel. Just a few rallies within a few hundred miles of home a couple times a year. Any other travel with it would be behind my Ford Escape, which is a pretty good tow vehicle.

I've looked at the myPod. It's seems very nice, but I don't like the single door and no kitchen. I'd think all the packing and unpacking you'd have to do would be almost as much setup work as the tent trailer.

I spoke to someone who has one and the only complaint was that the galley hatch was opening while traveling.
Seems they use a "U" shaped drawer pull thingy to engage the galley lid handles and they needed shimming.
From what I heard from the owner it didn't fix the problem completely.
Seems like it would be an easy fix with a different type of hardware.

Yes, in the year 2000 I added a FMII turbo, which puts down a little over 200 bhp at the rear wheels (the car weighs 2106 lbs). Not an issue for me any more. Not sure if you are planning to change the radiator, but I had to go with the FM radiator and fans to keep it cool under boost.

Sounds like you will be all set!

www.golittleguy.com/forum is a good place to learn about T@Gs. They're a new evolving design. People generally seem pleased with them. They discuss some defects and popular upgrades in the forum.

I decided to place a deposit on one. It should be in at the tail end of September.

I think you will enjoy it, wincrasher. Maybe will see you around one of the campgrounds here in SC.
