Things that bother me about Camp Grounds

Postby Woodbutcher » Tue Jul 29, 2014 6:36 pm

Some times I think Camp Grounds are designed by people that have never camped. This past trip it was several CG's with Concrete picnic tables. Not only were that placed where it was hard to use them, the table surface is so rough you can't get on or off the benches without road rash!

Then, why can't they put a few hooks in the shower area? Some showers have no benches, no shelf, and no hooks. Where do they expect you to put your stuff?

Steve,

Placing three or four campsites "together" so there is no privacy, and your neighbors campfire ring is 10 feet from your trailer.

I know, camping like this is not really camping...but in the midwest, and other areas where there are more campers than campsites, we end up camping in the suburbs, right next to our neighbors, who took out a 30 year mortgage on a home 12' from the next guy because they wanted their own piece of land away from the crowded city...
Perhaps these same people use the same logic to build campgrounds

There is something horribly wrong that they need to figure out before they cook someone. it's almost certainly 110v, and I'd speculate the only reason someone hasn't yet been hurt is that it is probably challenging to form a conductive path from hand-to-hand, through the torso...

For those showers with either not enough hooks or none at all we use one of these.

A cheap fix for a common problem.

Wow , Love those hooks I hadn't thought of those. thanks for the idea.

I have talked with several electricians and it is the main idea that they grounded the florense (I cant spell it) lights to the water pipe. I have a complaint in to our Federal park system but Ha, Ha. I guess I will have to find an attorney to write a letter. ........

Don't forget the shower heads. You either get 3-4 little pinprick jets of water, or one 3/4 inch wide deluge, and they're all installed by midgets who don't own ladders.
Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.

In MD parks, I've mostly run into propane-fired tankless water heaters. If you're alone in the bath house they are great, but if other people are starting/stopping showers or flushing toilets, you can get an occasional slug of extremely hot or really cold water before the system catches up. I go at 7am to try to beat the rush.

The shower curtains that don't span the entire opening are also a real head scratcher.

Re: showers, like Danny I too carry an over-the-door hook but mine's not as fancy - just plastic with two hooks, one above the other.

I also carry and use a set of cheap flip-flops to keep me of the shower floor and fungus-free. :D

Not much except those that are jammed in too close to each other and the ones known to be party sites. Many of our younger years were spent in a local tourist community and we learned to lay low on major holidays. When camping we have those golden spots (normally in the high country) far from the broken beer bottles and used toilet papered rocks. One of our favorite spots gets so cold it can freeze in summer. We left the central valley one 112 degree August day for this spot and it hit 29 degrees that night. One of our pastimes there is to wager on how long the obviously ill equipped flat landers, that stumble into this slice of paradise, will stay that night.

Guess I'd say there is a reason we have maps and campgrounds have exits. :D

People who let their dogs bark constantly for hours, while they are there, and won't control their animal when asked politely really upsets me. I like dogs, but they work for us, not the other way around.
enjoy, Chris

I would agree with Rob and a few others that mentioned how close sites can be. A few times when you throw your door open in the morning you step right out into the neighbors table. I quick, good morning and what's for breakfast? usually can break the ice but who wants to be that close. Another site had a serious snoring camper, at about 8 AM. There was quite a bit of joking going on around the area of the offender by other campers.! The lesson here should be, if you snore be the first one up!
