Another new use for a teardrop

Postby Shadow Catcher » Mon Aug 04, 2014 6:42 am

We were camping up in Michigan this last weekend and hear from a fellow camper that there is a level III emergency in Toledo for water quality because of the algae bloom. So we call our daughter and yes it is true. A couple of years ago Metamora switched from it own water treatment system to buying water from, you guessed it Toledo. For the first time I filled up the water tank before we left the park.
We are in fairly good shape because I can switch over to our well which we do not use for other than watering because it has never been tested and I am using the filter that I use with the tear to strain out the, what ever is in it.
There have been various bug-out scenarios, I think this may be one of the first bug-in.

Probably should have it tested... not that expensive.
Too many things cause cancer/poor health, etc.
Might get lucky and have way better water than what you are buying.

The water up there is bad enough they are recommending you don't even shower in it.

Be careful.

The pictures that they showed on TV of Lake Erie, there in Toledo, were pretty bad...bright green sludge.
Taking water to your family via your teardrop's water tank was a good idea!

Tonight, we are told that Toledo's crisis has been resolved and residents are drinking clean, clear tap water, once again.

This is an addendum, the idea was a good one but! Normally I filter all water going into the water tank with one two or three filters depending on my level of confidence. Since this was less than an hour from home I filled the tank prior to leaving and filtered it through the ceramic outer carbon inner filter. When we left I did not use the filter (it has a slow filter rate) when we got home and i drew some of the water it was brown. I had shut off mains water when we arrived home, attached the filter between the well pump and the house lines.
The all clear was sounded but the problem is that the caution to flush your system for 15 min does not address the water in the village water tower the water line from Toledo or folks hot water tanks which would have to be dumped. This did not go well and the politicians that showed up including the governor said nothing really about addressing the problem.

I blame global warming, fracking, Monsanto GMOs, Reaganomics, and the Exxon Valdez.

On the news, they said that it was due to fertilizer run-off from the nearby farming communities.
I would think that they could do something about that.

Sharon, the prime factor is farm runoff both fertilizer and animal and yes something can be done about it and hopefully will.

Most of the blame rests with the agriculture industry poor practices, over reliance on certain types of fertilizers (too much of it) and not enough filtration space (some times none at all) between fields and streams. livestock factory farms are also one of the big problems http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/08/0 ... tory-farms
