The restoration/rebuild was covered by a couple of hot rod / street rod magazines about 10 or so years ago ... pretty amazing piece of work! I knew Art back in the late '60s and early '70s, and his top painter & partner at the time was a really good friend of mine name of Mike Haas ... Mike was really cool, Art could be a real PITA ... :shhh: ...!

Grant, Since the title of this thread is "For Mike and Grant" maybe I can get away with this hijack. I have a question for you. In fact possibly there would be a great opening here for a serial titled simply, "Ask Grant." Here's my question to get it started off.

You have met so many interesting people. Who haven't you met that you always wanted to?

Jeeezzzzz, Rob ...

... there are so many ... we could start with Von Dutch on one hand (too late for that one, though) ... and then Neil deGrasse Tyson on the other hand (still a chance for that one, and yeah, I probably spelled his name wrong!) ... how about Bob Hoover (the famous aerobatic pilot)? I got real close once, but you know that close doesn't count! ... skateboarder Tony Hawk ... ANY of the Apollo, Gemini, or Mercury astronauts (they were ALL my heros back in those days) ... Jimmy Carter ... JFK, Robert, and Martin ... Eric Clapton ... I could write a book ... :? ...!

I consider myself very fortunate to have grown up when I did and around the people who came & went through the years ... everybody knows somebody, and if you are lucky and in the right place at the right time, you get to meet a lot of interesting (and sometimes famous) people ... I've been very lucky ... ...!

Thanks for reminding me, Rob!

I really wish you would write that book. I'm sure it would be a best seller. Even if nobody bought it but your friends, that alone would get it to the top 20 list!

You have listed such an eclectic group of people you would like to meet. You are an amazing friend to so many. Thank you for being my friend.

You flatter me, Rob! Kay would be telling you, "Stop it! ... his head is already too big!" But, I'm humbled. (where's the icon for a namaste ...?)
I seriously doubt that anyone other than my closest friends and perhaps a few family members would buy (let alone read) such a book. Besides, they'd probably want to call it a work of fiction and need to keep it out of the reach of children under the age of 18 ...   ...!

:) I, for one, would really like to hear the one about Neil DeGrasse Tyson, please.

In trade, Grant, since you told me you like the gitaron (while sitting around a campfire somewhere a few years back), I offer this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbBCdrQuQgc

Very cool, Prem!

You should have been with us this weekend up on Mystic Mount Shasta ... two ukeleles, an acoustic guitar, and a harmonica (I even strummed one of the ukes, just to get the feel of it ... might be looking into a Kala tenor model, someday) ... you'ld have made it one helluva jam session, my Friend ... ...! (Yeah, we miss you!)

Grant,

You flatter me.

Glad you had a good campout. The forest fire smoke in the air is a deterent for me. Only one place I care to be, and that's South Beach, Crescent City. This time of year, I can understand The Fog Crawler. Gimme some ocean fog! Dreadford has been dreadful with smoke off and on lately.

I spent most of April, all of May and most of June in Spain hiking/backpacking a few hundred miles in mountains from the Pyrennes to the Atlantic Ocean, staying in alberques and hostels, eating the locals' homegrown organic and homecooked comida every day. It's a new form of camping that is VERY cool, so I'm kinda camped out for this year. (Only went to the Applegate gathering.)

Ouu! Kala tenor? That Kala bass uke with the polyurethane strings really rocks. Either way, you are on the right track for sure! (But learning on a baritone uke makes it real easy to transition to a guitar. First four strings the same. Tune it to Open D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SroieZi_L0w and you have chords everywhere instantly. Ask Chuck, who is now gonzo into 4-string tenor guitars and banjos!) :?

Miss you guys too. :icedtea: :dancing: Tell the ladies I said hi.

Prem
