When I see them in the wild, they are usually the home built type. Very rarely do I see a a Little Guy or, god-forbid, a Camp-Inn. Their numbers must be tiny.

I'm not sure how many little guys are out there (I'd be curious) I know camp inn has produced just shy of 700. Obviously there's many more home builds. It's allways great to see what people are capable of.

Does it matter if you are seeing home-built or production teardrops on the road?
It seems encouraging just to hear that folks are seeing teardrops out there. On our motorcycle trip from Arizona to Oregon, we saw only three that entire eight day trip. But at least we did see those three. I wish we saw that few RV's. I look forward to the time when you see quite a few where ever you go.

I find the home built vs. manufactured ratio of interest as it says something about those of us that have one. I have yet to see an unaltered Little Guy as an example. The demographics that you see in a particular camp ground are also fascinating.

Shadow Catcher, go to Atwood Lake Campground near Mineral Springs, Ohio this week if you want to see a lot of Little Guys, T@G's and T@B's. My galley is definitely altered from what I bought and many others are, too. I'll be getting new tail lights and license plate holder this week, too, after one tail light and the license plate broke off last Friday in Nebraska.

I'm not saying one is better than the other.

I just find it curious that I more often see the homebuilts than I do the manufactured. Considering factories are churning them out by the hundreds (if not thousands) per year, you'd expect to see alot more of them out and about.

But maybe it's more of a mindset of the owners. Maybe those that buy a manufactured one don't really have any different of a usage pattern than any other RV buyer - so the annual vacation and the odd weekend here and there. Perhaps the homebuilt folks use their rig more, and it's probably because they spend so much time on it and they have a greater attachment to their trailers. I don't know. Just thoughts I guess.

In all my traveling I've seen exactly one tear in the wild and it was a little guy.

I was heading back down I 74 yesterday morning from the Illinois groups gathering and was passed by a dually ford towing a large Airstream. I thought the gal in the passenger seat would lose her arm she was waving so hard. While I didn't have a teardrop sighting, they did, and I loved the reaction.

I have seen a few more on the road I believe now there more builders, and the prices are coming down for production built. There no way someone building 3 are so can mach prices. Fix cost are spread over more units.
Even the parts for home built for years where dominant by just 2 sellers. Now looking on line you can see the prices of 500% mark up are gone. No more paying the high prices because there a good old boy. so the cost of building is coming down. Then you have forms like this helping to build. and smaller cars.

I'd be interested in how many of each manufacturer and homemade

My Little Guy is unaltered, it works well for me just the way it is.

Do we really want to see a lot of TnTTT-type trailers out there? Sure, the camaraderie felt belonging to a community of like-minded folk is great, but "too many cooks spoil the broth", so to speak. If everyone had a small trailer, then where's the room to camp? And actually, don't we enjoy the favorable recognition of our unique creations (even when factory-built, they are usually made unique by their owners)...in my case, I enjoy the notoriety of going my own way, just a little bit off-center. I like the diversity of the creations here; if I ever see one built just like mine (99.999999999999% chance against it) going down the road, then I'll stop the owner, and meet my clone.
