Quoting a post in Chrome loses smilies

Aha! The picture was definitely positively selected in the partial quote.

Chrome may be doing something funny when it returns the selection to the bbs.

Here's a copy and paste of the same partial:

Psuedo-code for the quote button would look like:

if somethingIsSelected()
getSelectionFromBrowser(selectedText)
quotePartialPost(selectedText)
else
quoteWholePost()
endif

Because the selection is made in the browser and fed to the BB software. And the browser isn't playing nice.

The BB didn't want to indent my code, and ate the leading spaces.

Using the quote button is supposed to quote the entire post.

I select the part I want to quote, and hit the quote button in that post. If I hit the quote button in another post, it shows the wrong author.

For example:

That's a feature, not a bug.

I do a complete quote and then delete what I don't want in that quote. Then type what I want to say and hit Preview. Proof read what is there and if it's what I want, I hit the Submit Button.


I always Preview. That way I can correct what is or isn't there. A good habit to get into.

Mike, I finally realized after I answered your "how do I do partial quotes" question that I was incorrectly ass-ume-ing y'all knew how to select first for a partial quote. If I'd cleared that up in the first place, this would have been less confusing. OTOH, now you know.

If losing smilies is my biggest complaint about the forum, you must be doing okay.

I do a complete quote and then delete what I don't want in that quote.

Obviously, that would be my workaround if the quote has to be just right. Or go back to Firefox for working this forum. Or ignore the Chrome-eats-the-smilies bug, not worry and be happy. They're all workarounds.

I, too, always preview before I submit. I hate to diss other people's smilies, but not as much as I hate working around something that used to work.

And now everyone knows a new way to do partial quotes.

I guess I don't understand how YOU select first for a partial quote. Any pre-selection that I do is ignored when I hit the quote button.

I was incorrectly ass-ume-ing y'all knew how to select first for a partial quote.

I do it the way Gage does it... so if there is another way, please enlighten me!

Pre=selecting part of the message does not work with this software. There is at least one other forum software that does work that way, but I forget the name. The only thing that seems to work with this software is to hit quote and then carefully edit.

I must be going insane. OK. It's absolutely, positively safe to try this at home, so please do. It's a simple process:

1. From the View Topic screen, hit the "PostReply" button to open. It's down near the bottom.
2. Below the "Post a Reply" text box (where you will type your reply), you will see "Topic Review: (topic name)". Scroll down as required.
3. Find the text you want to quote, and select it with the mouse.
4. Hit the "Quote" button in the post you are quoting. The text you selected in step 3 will be inserted in your post along with who said it. If you hit the quote button in a different post from the one you selected the text in, the "wrong" name will appear.
5. Enjoy.

I'll work on some screenshots and return shortly.
