4-Day Weekender - Toddler bed!

Yesterday's weather was bad enough that I kept the tear in the garage all day. My dad was in town for a birthday party so he was nice enough to come over and show me how to make sliding doors out of beadboard so that the beads line up properly when the doors are closed. I'd planned to just cut them to size and live with the spacing but we made it work so every pair is properly aligned. So now all the doors are stacked up waiting for final fitting, in case the walls or dividers are curved or out of square, before I drill the finger holes or varnish them.

I tried to drill the extra blank wallplates I bought, the cheap ones just won't work so I'll have to order a few "unbreakable" nylon ones in the size I need.

Today's weather has been great so far. I started off by epoxying the tongue box's lip, the lid, and sealing the patch on the hatch from my little incident. Then I put the first coat of paint in the galley and the green on the accent.

I put the second coats on the accent and the galley this afternoon.
I also cleaned the shop a bit (it really needed it ) and made a riser for the hatch light, since the one I bought is designed to be surface mounted and have the wires brought in from behind. So I made a ring out of 1.5" boards and dado'ed a space for the wire to use.

I pulled the tape off the front and the curb side this evening, I didn't feel like getting suited up to sand the epoxy on the lid or tongue box this evening, maybe tomorrow.

I found four places that I'll need to touch up on the accent, mostly where my hand or roller brushed the tan region. I also had a problem with a little of the green bleeding under the painter's tape, but since it is consistent and along all of the edges I'm just going to live with it vs try to get a razor-sharp edge.

I made up a Gantt chart while bored at the office today, I was able to list 175 items to be completed between now and 17 October. They're extremely detailed and computed down to the hour, I knocked out 8 of them tonight (sanding hatch interior and exterior, tongue box & lid, two coats of epoxy on tongue box and lid), and if I stay on schedule I shouldn't have any problem getting done in time. If push comes to shove, I'll just delay things like finishing the sliding doors and varnishing the ceiling panels (I'd stick one or two of those in just to hold a few lights up), making the side tables, etc.

I had to get my wife's help to move the hatch from the basement up to the garage so I could sand it, and then back down to the basement so I can primer it tomorrow. She said I get one more free move, and after that, I'll have to get a different helper.

Boy do I envy you. Good job.
I many times make up "to do" lists and then forget to even look at them. My half done projects grow and my complete list grows very slowly.

Did you actually predict the probability of on-time completion for each task listed? Good for you! A difficult thing to do in today's "business" climate. I tried similar, for the initial build (in the mid 90's), of my Chevelle (to become street-worthy), and was 95% for the first six weeks, until I was discovered using unauthorized funds for on-time completion from the corporate coffers. My comptroller (wife) declared that the recent merger (marriage) had invalidated my previous rights and privileges (as the former CEO, CFO, Chief Disbursement Officer) to draw upon heretofore unrestricted corporate funds (my bank account), and that all monies were hereby frozen, subject to the schedule provided by the latest corporate business model (i.e. her whim, her approval). I, of course, yielded to the decision of the boss, and never since have I challenged the (new) management. Since that time, I have learned the ways of modern business, hiding the facts and figures, using off-shore accounts (I hide money), and still can't meet my deadlines, schedules or not. I spend what time I can, what money I can find, and wing it!

The biggest issue with my chart is I didn't account for rain delays, since it is not something I normally worry about (my work stuff all gets built inside). Luckily, I'm my own comptroller and SWMBO only has input into aesthetics.

I didn't see a plan view of your TD so I couldn't get a feel for how the bedding was going to fit width-wise. How are you handling the wheel wells inside as far as bedding goes?

The wheel wells only stick up two inches, so I'm going to just put the mattress over them. If that doesn't work very well, I'll carve out 1" of mattress foam.

Today I managed to get two coats of primer on the tongue box, lid, and hatch interiors, plus my LED dimmers and nylon wallplates arrived.

For the reading light dimmers I've already mounted them to the inside of the roof in the upper forward storage compartments and will drill holes in the beadboard for the knobs to protrude through in a day or two. I figure that is the most discrete way to hide them, since they don't completely turn off and there will be more readily accessible switches to control the lights. They shouldn't be needed very often once we find light levels that we're happy with, so being tucked away shouldn't be a problem.

I already have a spot picked out for a third dimmer if I later decide to dim the four general lights but I'm a little unsure if that is possible. The two reading lights were sold as dimmable, but the four general lights are noted as not dimmable. I'm not sure if that just means not dimmable with a standard household dimmer, or if a pulse width modulating dimmer is also incapable of dimming them. Various forum discussions are inconclusive.

I made a critical oversight in my paint supplies and ran out of white paint last night, but not before getting the first coat on the hatch, lid and tongue box interiors, the lower hatch and one of the side tables. So today I've switched to priming the exteriors, and I'll run out for more paint and a few miscellaneous things later today.

Yesterday was a marathon day, two coats of primer and two coats of paint on the tongue box, lid, hatch, and lower hatch exteriors. This morning was the final coat of white on the interiors of the same and the side table tops. Now I just have minor stuff to paint like the electrical rings, the side table bottoms, hatch prop, etc, and touching up a few areas that need attention.

I bought a pair of drip guards for over the doors, has anyone tried painting them and the table rails? I'd like to match them to the tan of the exterior, but I'm worried brushing the paint I've been using would just look bad, and spray paint would wear too easily on the rails plus not be an exact match.
