We agree with Sharon!
The money we have saved already in our 104 nights in Miss Piggy was well worth the effort it took to build her. ;)
But, Sharon missed the most important thing in her list........The Wonderful People we have had opportunity to meet, that we would not have, by staying in Motels while travelling.

The majority of my Trips, not Days out with my Tear are used for this.

Over the year I've towed my tear to Party's, Bar-B-Ques, reunions and other events just so I can have a Beer or 2 and not have to worry about driving home late or worse getting a DUI.

Not that I drink a lot or that I am for Drinking and driving. But my State, Pennsylvania has lowered the Alcohol level so low that just driving past a Beer Distributor and reading the sign can get you a DUI.

Happy Trails

I built mine so I knew I would have a place to sleep for the night at minimal cost. I think I did quite well on my trip out west this summer. Stayed 11 nights in various campgrounds and city parks...some were free...and the total cost was $106. I figure it would cost about that much for 1 night at a decent motel.

To borrow from Len.......

Get to stay late at the kids homes and simply retire to our mobile bedroom. Just plug into the garage outlet and we are warm or cool and entertained as well as having a familiar bed to sleep in.

I built my first Teardrop back in 2007 . My thought was a way to save money when I traveled to off roading weekends in my Jeep. After attending my first teardrop gathering and seeing how many great people were out in the woods in these little trailers I was hooked. Friendships have been made that will last the rest of my life because of my little trailer. That would never have happened staying in a motel. You are lucky to get a good morning as you walk down the hallway there.

I built mine with the main idea that i could save money and the ease of setting up camp. But now having met a lot of wonderful people on here my out west dream trip is nearing reality for this social security retired lady. I could never do it without the possibility of driveway camping and finding the places I need to camp in order to save money. And all the other reasons no dirt, bugs with feet, nor bugs in the digestion system.

This summer, I elected to fly halfway across the country because, even though the cost was about the same, it would take a lot less time than driving.
However, finding an available motel/hotel with good ratings and a kitchenette can be nerve racking as well as expensive, especially if you are going somewhere near a resort town.

But, ordinarily, I simply prefer using my 'hybrid' teardrop as a motel/hotel room for:

- convenience
- cleanliness (or ones own style)
- privacy
- comfort
- meals
- campground views
- money saver....

While we're at it, the more you save while using your teardrop, the more you have to spend on other things, like maybe more camping trips?
.
It simply makes good sense.

Thats so true, so many advantages. I first built my Teardrop for party's when i was younger, so I can drink, have fun, and dont need to worry about getting home/waste money on a taxi. Was never my intention to go on holidays with it, but I tried it several times and it comes really convenient. So i started to put effort in making it nicer, optimize the little space provided, you know what I am talking about, the quest for perfection ;)
Only for overseas holidays I cant take my teardrop. But it was ok, I found a cheap hotel in las vegas, that was clean enough for my standards. Was thinking about renting an RV, but the prices for renting are crazy.

A lot of different reasons here. If you have stayed in many motels, they all start to look alike inside. We are much happier in a campground meeting other folks.
