Wall two up.
This project is calling on my creative side more than I anticipated. Had it all worked out where my fancy duct tape would go, adding just the right amount of functionality and class... now its to chilly to work, adhesive isn't adhesive 8)

Sub wall from outside. Low door added for the dogs to access the screen room when warmer weather hits... and wide enough to slide my queen mattress through.

Mattress fits upstairs (stairs not included) luckily. Forgot to take the diagonal geometry involved with moving it from lengthwise on the floor to sideways up top into account.

Painting was supposed to happen at this point but the weather isnt cooperating... worried it would freeze on rather than dry... lol

And likely to get even colder. Bummer. Doesn't a heater warm it up enough to work?

I hope so... but I don't turn the heat on till minus 20
Actually I'm holding off on heat till I've got 360 degrees of insulation, still have bits left to do.

Winter storm rolled in earlier this evenning, lots of snow with freezing rain expected and lots more snow.

I did notice that even with the gaps in insulation coverage its already taking the trailer much longer to cool off as the outside temperature drops.

Coping with fall weather. At least I'll see how the roof handles a load of snow :)

Finally plugging up that hole. Sort of lets a mirky light through... then again its mirky outside.

My nuts are cold. (See hung ceiling nuts from above). Was curious how much of a heat sink they'd be. May have to invent some sort of covers for them.

I'm really liking your build Chilly Willy. Your "Alberta Clipper" is heading south to my neck of the woods by Tuesday. Keep us posted on which heater you install and how you do it. What part of Alberta are you in anyway? I've done a little fishing around Calgary, southwest into the mountains from there, and northwest of Edmonton. It looks like you're really getting the insulation and board placement right to me, top to bottom. I think the hay bale idea for skirting is brilliant. Stay warm and be extra careful/diligent with the propane and its lines/connections.

Chilly willy

Could you post some pictures "mock up" of what exactly you did with the ceiling wires / bolts.

I'm still a little foggy of exactly what that looks like ?? And how to tightened the ceiling.

Thanks Jerry

Thanks for the advice on propane lines. That stuff scares me, largely because I have no sense of smell.
I'm in Grande Prairie. Usually a fair bit colder here than Calgary. Town two hours from here tends to be colder yet. I got my dogs from a reserve near there.

I'll try and do up a sketch for the ceiling hangers and post that for you... pen is frozen.. lol.

Was hoping to get insulation done as the weather cooled off so I could run an electric space heater off my generator, and fine tune cold spots and drafts... but the bottom is falling out... calling for minus 26 a couple nights from now. Thinking some real heat may be in order :o

Chilly Willy, Howdy;

You are doing some truly good work and not in the best of conditions.
One thing I overlooked was you mention earlier of using Straw or hay
bales for skirting, that not such a good idea, as they attract vermin and
when they get wet they disintegrate, rot and are a mess to get rid of.
Most Campgrounds will not permit them to be used. When I lived in a
tow behind RV I used 2' X 8' painted sections of exterior plywood. At the
time I lived in Central Utah and we experienced -40* F temps at times.
When the snows came I just piled it up against the skirting. Helped plug
any cracks and prevented the under area from getting below 32* F.

Thanks Hank. I figured on doing the same with plywood and snow. Hay bails woulx be appropriate if I was parked in some farmers yard i guess... didnt consider trailer parks disallowing them. Good to know.

Looks great!
Having lived in a 20' toyota motorhome in Maine for a couple years, I'm confident that your build will be plenty big, it has more space than my toy home did. Also, I think you have more than adequate insulation. For a room this small, it's almost not worth doing crazy, no matter what you do, the space will heat up fast and cool down fast. The key is to have warm bedding and have the heater control near your bed so you can turn it on without getting from under your cozy nest. Best of luck and I don't see why stealth camping should be a problem, looks like a contractor.

Found a year round rv park that was ok with my trailer, dogs etc. Only 10 miles from town. 30 amp serviced site... couldnt be happier, or so I thought. While digging out my lot tonight I discovered a furnished dining room :R Thinking snow cones for a late supper.
