Rob says Hi!

Postby UkuleleRob » Tue Nov 11, 2014 8:23 am

Hi I'm Rob, as you might guess. We are in NW Indiana, and have been camping off and on for ever.
I've been thinking about building a trailer for a good while now. Maybe with the support of the people here it might happen.

Hi Rob, you have come to the right place. There are so many builders doing so many different things, the hardest part will be deciding what to build. You might consider coming to a gathering in Indiana or Illinois in the Spring and see some in person. It's a great way to meet people and ask questions. You do NOT have to have a teardrop to join a gathering.

I would think that there might be people or groups in SW Michigan also?
I've got old enough that in 2015 I will be able to buy a pass for entrance to all of our State parks for the calender year for $20. So there's that.

Welcome to the sand box !

Our Hoosier group is quite active with 3 gatherings a year. ( 4 if you count the frostbite follies in January) We hope you will join us. We rotate the state to be close for all of our camping buddies but you will find after attending one or two it is worth the drive where ever it is held in the state. Look up the Cross roads of America thread this is a not to be missed gathering. You will need to reserve the minute it is possible as we fill the entire McCormick's creek state park. 240 trailers from 41 states and a Canada about 480 camper folk. Hope to see ya by the fire !

Bob

Welcome, I still like a year or two for my park pass! But, there's a wealth of info here. At gatherings, like me, most people are more than willing to share experience/tips we have learned. Be sure to scroll all the way down the "Home" page to see gatherings/camping info, I got too interested in everything else and it took about 4-5 months for me to find that. That will help you find times/dates/info in your area. Dave coyote

I've been looking around, and the different ways a person can go are almost overwhelming.
Would a person be better off to build from scratch. Or buy someone's trailer that they have outgrown, or have not finished?
More thought is needed. This may take a while.

Welcome! I built my little teardrop. Bought a harbor freight trailer put it together and built a base and then built mine out of foam. The cast of building is $1250, so far, all I need is a air conditioner, and some paint, and some little things.and some. Extra things just for me. Building was fun it is not for everyone but to me I did it because I could not afford to buy one and I enjoy building things. I do think I was able to build with very few tools too. It is just do what you want. That is the fun of this forum you can find your spot. Whether you build or just want to decorate the one you just bought there is sometng for you on this forum.

Build from scratch. It's more fun! :D

I've thought about starting a thread about nothing, like the Seinfeld show. Where I might just post whatever thoughts I had at the time. Just basically getting people to converse with me. Is that permitted? And if it is, what area would be best for this?

A lot of that type of ramblings wind up in the "off Topics" section !

But then again the whole forum is ramblings of one type or another.

General Discussion section gets the most traffic.
So it is probably the best place to get info and ask questions.
There are some great buys out there right now.........and remember to double your proposed budget if you decide to build.

I just looked it up. A person can still tow two trailers in Indiana. 65 feet total length.
I thought about a TTT that is just a sleeper. And then a Galley trailer bringing up the rear?

 Thoughts?
