Hello! Westling here, very pleased to meet you all.

I'm about three weeks into my first travel trailer build. Very little prior knowledge, but learning as I go. I was thrilled to discover this forum last week. I'm sure I'll have some questions for y'all, but you've already answered a few of them. Hope to have some good pics to share soon.

Welcome Westling! Have fun with your build. Maybe we will see you over in MN camping some day.

Thanks TPMcGinty! In the interest of full disclosure I am a Minnesota resident, though just barely. I live on the east side of the Red River, about an actual stones-throw from Fargo.

As a kid I did quite a bit of hiking and camping along the North Shore and the Arrowhead. I'd like to get over east again when I finish the trailer, especially now that my own kids are getting to the age that they might really enjoy it.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Thanks, AZ_Desert_Rat! And Merry Christmas to you and yours!

By the way, I started a build journal at the following link: Westling's 8'X5'
The exterior is about 98% complete, but the work on the interior is just beginning. Still, it's road worthy and we may be taking trip very soon.

Thanks again,

Westling

Thanks, AZ_Desert_Rat! The interior has a way to go. No insulation yet, but we'll be heading WAAAY south on our first trip so we're not really worried about that for the moment.

The only urgent question I'm trying to get answered is whether I need some kind of special registration here in Minnesota before we hit the road. I bought the 8X5 utility trailer new and registered it right away. The GVWR is under 2000 lbs so in MN we don't need plates or anything, just a sticker that goes on the tongue. As far as I know I didn't make any modifications that should change the fundamental nature of the trailer, just added some plywood and windows to it.

Any thoughts?

The sticker is your lifetime license (same as plates). Should be good in all states. Most states to be a RV is has to have a bathroom.
