IT COST HOW MUCH??

Postby Danidog » Wed Nov 05, 2014 5:49 pm

Went to my local DMV this a.m. to get my title and tags for my TTT. Came out $160.00 lighter. That's like, almost 60% of what my trailer cost.

Couldn't believe it, but I still love my TTT.

It cost me $97 and a whole lot of time while the DMV folks behind the desk tried to decide what to do about my tear. The renewal is $15 a year. While Wisconsin doesn't require my tear to be tagged, I did so anyway. Don't have to worry (while traveling) about some out of state cop pulling me over for a "conversation" regarding whether my rig is legal or not.

Well, with my kind of luck, if I tried to cut one corner, I'd meet up with a LEO within a mile of my house and I'd get slammed for something! Our tags are mandatory and cost $25.00 per year, or, you can get a permanent tag for $75.00. I went the permanent route. I think DMV's charge a rental fee for every minute they have you in one of their chairs!

here in Washington my tabs each year are $36 and it is licensed as a teardrop camp trailer but what burns me is when I see part of the charge is a $3 fee for the support of rest stop "sewer" dumping stations for RV's - and now this state is talking about adding another yearly fee on each trailer/RV owner at licensing time for support of the state parks whether you use them or not. State Park camp sites already cost about $20 to $28 per nite depending on the hook up and are increasing again in $$$ this next year.

Gee, in my Washington, the state, the $5 extra is voluntary. $36 is a bargain considering that we have no income tax, or back in the day before the big migration, we paid big bucks for new car licensing. I think I paid $400 for my 88 Subaru in 1988. That got repealed after the migration.

Nope, not going to whine here.

I heard about that tidbit of legislation only aimed at those with trailers or RV's.
If it was across the board and included car and tent campers it would be fair.
I hope it doesn't pass.
We have only camped once in a Washington State Park.
Oregon has nicer campgrounds.
Sorry for the hijack, couldn't resist. :D Danny

the $5 and the $30 are voluntary but there is a proposal to charge another fee just for RV's and trailers in Olympia to pay for state parks whether weusethem or not. You may think its a deal now but just wait........ Our tabs did go down in cost a few years ago and since, there's been a never ending adding on of fee's like the weight fee for each car - the license plate replacement requirement's every 7 years "due to the reflectivity" wearing out for safety! (yet it's funny how the plates on all of our state vehicles where I have worked for the last 30 years haven't been replaced in over 20 years, yet it's a such a safety issue?? Why aren't our state vehicles safe?) My teardrop trailer is 4 x 8 foot and I have to pay to support some $$$$ owner of a RV to dump his sewer tank on his RV when I don't even have one!! Why?? We don't have Income tax but we do have one of the highest sale tax rates in the country and it's also going higher also!!! If it's not one tax , it's another!!! Wait till Jay gets done with his proposed "Carbon Tax" he wants - him and Al Gore have been talking this last week about it and their ideas...... to bad they both don't practice what they preach and start riding bicycles instead of riding in cars and jets.... enough whining said for me... take care

Here in Arizona the transfer fee for a used utility trailer with lifetime plates included is $16. That's it and you're done. Not sure about starting a new one from scratch, but it's pretty cheap. On my used one all I had to do was show up with the notarized title at DMV (wait in line, Now serving number D-768 at window 39) and pay for the new title & plate. There was no inspection of anything. I guess there's more to smile about here than the weather in winter...

My 2 cents worth,,,I would argue you built it with parts you bought, That said you paid tax upon perchance of those parts..so why the tax?save your slips an show them..
Be who you are, say what you want, those that matter wont mine an those that do don't matter.

Hey, I pay for ferries, which I never use and a lot of stuff that I don't use. That's a moot argument.

I agree that Oregon has better, and less expensive state parks. I like to go to Steamboat, which is in our fair state, but it's spendy. Prices start at $30 for a bare bones site, $40 a night if I want water and power, and more if I want a "popular" site. In the off season, it was $27 a night in a hookup spot. Is it also unfair that I pay the same for a site as a big RV? After all, I don't use the sewer hookup. Nah, we have to pay for things we don't use. We are lucky that we can find lots of boondocking spots, or camp in National Forests--I got a lake front view property for $12 a night there.

It is all cheaper than paying for a room, I travel a bunch for work, with AAA discount rooms are never cheaper than $100/ night. I never have a problem with $30/ night for two, unless I have to pay for a shower etc.
