Squidget Interior Progress

Postby cracker39 » Sat May 20, 2006 2:02 pm

I wasn't going to show any interior pics until it was completed, but I relented and took some today of my cabinetry work. I have only one more item to build, the upper shelf that runs across the front above the galley, similar to the rear shelves. I am lacking a lot of the molding until the shelf is done. I plan on putting some decorative trim between the two rear shelves above the A/C unit. I don't have the seat cushions yet, so the couch is bare.

Squidget Progress Album. The last 4 rows of pics are the latest.

Looks very nice Dale. I like the way you did the couch, it give you the feeling roomy in the trailer, when it is set up as a couch. Nice.

I only have a pic of myself standing by the completed side, taken a couple of months ago (I'm 5' 8 1/2" tall). The door is 5' 8" tall to give you some frame of reference. Sitting level, from ground to the highest part (not counting the vent) is 91 1/2" (7' 7 1/2"). I have 6' of clearance at the vent fan inside. I could have done with less, but if I ever sell it, I don't want to limit it to my height.

Asian,

My original design would have been about 6" lower. That one was wider with the bed running side to side converting into a dinette table with seats on each side, and a drop floor for standing at the galley. But, I decided to change it to the current design with the bed going front to back. So, it is narrower and taller than the original. The advantages are 1) more than double the floor space where you can stand up when the bed is up in couch mode, 2) no one has to climb over the other to get up during the night, 3) the inside under bed storage are is more easily acessible, 4)narrower meant less materials and weight, and 5) I can see behind me with the standard outside mirrors on my small truck.

That's one of the reasons I designed it the way I did. My wife is claustrophobic, so I wanted as much roominess as possible and still keep it as small as I could. She still is convinced that it's too small to stay in for more than a day or two. I hope to change her mind about that. She wants to go to Chattanooga to visit her old home place again. I'd like to take the trailer, and she isn't sure about that.

...looks good, like I knew it would... :D Dale, hopefull your wife will find that with the airy layout, a little outside time and the fact that she won't be cooped up in there 24/7, that she won't feel closed in...

Great job Dale. :applause:
I can't believe you broke down. If you'd notice I haven't updated my gallery. I also am going to wait till the finish. I am oh so close. cabin is done, just need to button up some details in the galley and mount the fenders. But you'll have to wait for pic's.

Dang, Dale, that's looking nice.

The tension between what is good enough and what is beyond that creates the space for character to become our work.
