My plan is to install 1" rigid pink insulation between the 1" aluminum ribs of my trailer and seal any gaps with spray foam.

Then add 3" wide strips of 1/2" plywood to each rib with 1/2" rigid pink insulation between the strips sealed with aluminum foil tape.

Then attach the original 3/8" plywood sheets to the 1/2" ply wood strips.

That will give me 1 1/2" insulation (R 7.5) and a thermal break.

Just waiting for windows and slightly warmer weather.

Thanks for the advice on racking and insulation......I am aware that there are several ways to accomplish the same thing....the bottom part is the plywood over ¾" insulation, attached directly to the upright posts.....the top part is another ¾" insulation covering the plywood.....






The electrical was a LOT of splicing (see the light blue)........




....I changed out to group splicing (cleaner IMHO)




I also did butt splice crimps (dark blue) and then slid a shrink tubing over to better seal

Aggravations.......some have advocated placing the wires next to the trailer skin to avoid being drilled/screwed/pierced. My running lights quit working and I couldn't figure it out. I checked the last wires I remember doing before lights out.....everything looked good but the fuse (truck) was blown......replaced it with an immediate blow.......removed EVERYTHING I had done today and found a mangled wire that had not one or two hits but three .......fixed it and placed ALL wires next to the skin (these are strictly the trailer lights).......replaced the fuse.....IT WORKS .......then started replacing plywood and furring strips, periodically checking the lights to ensure they still worked... .... all said and done, lessons learned.......

Added a 27w Kawell LED light http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DZKCXD4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to the bow (front) as a hitch light. The other one is on the passenger side (above the window) for a work light.

Added 2 of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009ES3F0Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to the rear of the trailer (over the barn doors) for work lights there.


Added 3 of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008XZAQDU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (2 on passenger side and 1 on the driver's side) for warm lighting for camping.

Am thinking of putting these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L74ROFC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 along the top of each outside for subdued lighting when camping.

ALL of these will be switched through these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007B856YY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which will be placed in aluminum sheet and placed over the top of the inside door (header) with the switches in an outline of the trailer.

Putting the switches above the door is an interesting idea. I will have to think about that concept.

I'll be doing the same kind of set up just with different products. I already have one switch on the right side of my door that turns on my dome light that works when the trailer is plugged into the truck. Sub'd for your install

Thanks to Prem for the advice.....unfortunately, didn't have time to wait until summer........used a quart just applying to the frame around and below the AC hatch

A shot looking forward. The floor paint is an outside paint designed for porches and decks so it has a bit of grit in it for non-slip surface. The black tube is 1" wire loom which ALL of my wiring resides in. It will eventually be mounted on the vertical sides up near the roof (will be covered by crown molding)

Used the "good Stuff" foam designed for > 1" gaps.



The bottom portion is before trimming. The top portion has been trimmed. Easy way to do - used a Dremel Multimax with Bi-metal saw blade, run along the same plane as wood.


Down side of using "Good Stuff" - I changed my mind on route of wiring so had to chisel out the foam in the nose, then put a !-¼" PVC pipe in for wire run. Will foam around the pipe.......

I plan on doing a lot of that - running conduit that is. Including in the insulation in the sub floor. There is no way I am going to design a perfect wire layout the first time. There will be mistakes and there will be additions after the first pass of completion is done.

The upside of drawing your electrical layout is NOT missing the simple things......once I had inserted my battery into the equation, I couldn't get the exterior lights to work.......all of which was in my head......drew it out and realized I hadn't attached negative (battery) to trailer frame(which my lights are grounded to)......once I attached a negative ground to the trailer frame, lights worked fine.....

Had several sheets of ¾" foam insulation left over, so took some advice and installed under the trailer





Used Liquid Nails then held in with 1-¼" exterior screws with ¼" by 1-¼" fender washer........

Now for the wiring.......

Changed out the wiring (16 ga) for the Fantastic vents (12 ga) for peace of mind........odd observation - black wire is the hot one, white wire is ground/neutral

Decided to add some under-frame 120v outlets.......these are at the front of the V-nose (top photo, can see diamond-plate)


The line comes in on the R (top photo), goes to a GFCI then exits on the L (the light colored conduit) to mid-trailer where is enters a junction box that splits out to each side just in front of the tires.......will get more pic tomorrow.......the circuit is a 20-amp, protected by GFCI
