Hello all,
I'm a fairly new lurker here in the forum. I started just over a month ago after I bought a trailer to start building a teardrop on. I'm not working and have a lot of free time so this thing is going up quickly! I already have the cabinets built and installed and the walls up. I'm working on headliner, spars, galley hatch, doors and custom built windows this week. I should actually have it all on the road next month some time. I'm wondering if I should even post up my build log that I've been keeping for my own records but there are so many here that I feel it might just get lost.
I love to camp and have just grown tired of putting up my tiny pop-up trailer. A lot of the time I use it while traveling across the country and don't like the 2 hours it takes to "pop" it up and then take it all down again in the morning. Mostly because some times I only stop for 7 hours or so while driving, meaning my sleep time suffers.
About me: I grew up building just about anything you can think of. My father is a carpenter and cabinet builder and a fine craftsman. I'm a trained welder, carpenter and have many other skills as well. I love working with my hands and have so far enjoyed the challenge of not having plans to build this trailer with. I've probably way over built it in some ways because I haven't used forums or other sources for information but more for ideas of how to do certain areas. I know my trailer will be quite unique in some of the ways it's been built due to this process. I enjoy writing and in other forums have found a niche of putting up certain build logs. Time will tell how this log will end, hopefully by showing a nice usable easy to tow trailer!
I've read a couple builds all the way through and have my own take on the design. I'm not using plans but have always been able to visual most things without much to go from. The woody I'm building is just over 9' long and right at 5' wide. So far I'm thinking I'll be able to keep it under 600 pounds with the big queen memory foam mattress, but only time will tell on that end.
Enough of an introduction, thanks for having me on the board!
