Well I have decided on a plan:

Some changes will include:
13" Wheels
my tow vehicle (1967 anglia) is a little over 4' wide so I am limited to a 4" wide cabin


I intend to use alucobond type sheeting for the roof and exterior
A (heavily) skeletonised ply frame
and 1/4 inch ply inside
polystyrene insulation

12V lighting (LED)
My galley will have some drawers and space for my 1950s primus 2 burner kerosene cooker

I also have a charcoal BBQ (1970s style in a cardboard suitcase)
The draw bar may have a bike rack for a healing cruiser bike (1970s thing)


For now this is just a spot to keep ideas as I think of them. Im selling two scooters that I have been building/ modifying to begin the finance of this project.


As I think of stuff I will add it.

The aim of the game is lightness, if you feel I could go lighter please tell me how. I am a total rookie who has never even seen a teardrop in real life.

However I just ordered a trailer coupling, jockey wheel and some lights for the trailer so I have made a start!

I am using 5 mm ply (3/16 inch thk) as an inner skin over 1-1/2 foam with no skeleton frame and only minimal framing (just a sill and around the door, and a bunch of little blocking points let and glued into the foam. Although it was a substantial level of effort to pocket out and glue in all of the individual blocks, and required a lot of consideration on where to put it all so that it would be where it was needed later, it should end up being a lot lighter than a more standard build.

A lot of people will tell you that 1/8 inch is plenty for the inner skin when backed by foam.

Have you looked at the Foamie section? Lots of light weight options and ideas there. In fact, Laura is building a Foamie Superleggra-ish.

Hi, thanks for the tip but it appears that NZ insulation and US insulation is vastly different

Except for expanded poly under floor insulation we dont use foam for insulation here.

It does my head in as I am a RC plane moddler and all the foam you guys use for models that is unavailable here!

This is a complete learning experience, Im learning to weld at the moment (New Years res in Jan Was to learn to weld in 2014)

So I figured I needed a good welding table. In the interest of saving $$ I made my own

Knocked this up out of 1.6mm steel and a pallet today (I know it has no legs yet),I will probably use saw horses

GOOD NEWS!
I sold amotorbike bike today. This will give me the funds to buy an old trailer and some steel to rebuild as an 8x4!
(I also have a pair 8x4 1" ply coversheets for my internal framing ready to pickup when I make the trailer)
I will skeletonise and fill the gaps with polystyrene

Also it will not get below -5 deg C at night on my trips, will I need to insulate the floor? I was going to go with 3/4" ply with linoleum with those cheep blue bedrolls under a 6" foam matteress

Please feel free to give advice as
1) I have never seen a tiny teardrop in real life
2) I have never built ANYTHING like this
However I am a fast learner

Second scooter sold, that gives me close to $1k to get going (it will not be enough, but it is a start)

Bidding on a nice light trailer on trademe right now, hope to have it the day after tomorrow.

Then the build can start as of 10 Jan (after my family vacation)

I have a month off work, lets see what I can do!

But with light (600kg ) springs and cortina pattern (4x108 PCD) hubs
Next week I will order steel

Then it is time to make sparks and get the trailer built and registered. I have 8x4 sheets of ply purchased and in storage (21mm and 3mm )
I just need to make the trailer to pick them up

I have a month off work, lets see what I can do!

I'm ending week three of my month-long break. I've made lots of progress, but amazing how quick it goes when you're building. I'm looking forward to seeing this come together.

I will probably paint the Anglia in april, I have my 40th coming up and my family have all been instructed to place $ on my account at spray store!

So I have to admit I am a sentimental chap and I dug out 2 old rims one off my first anglia (GS3611) which was scrapped when I cooked the motor (approx 1990) and one off my 2nd anglia (AP6930) which my dad wrote off for me also approx 1990) my blue roughy has been in my possesion since feb 1991 (my 16th birthday)

I wire brushed em and painted em silver with wheel paint!

My native language is English, however the native language of NZ is Maori, but it is not spoken by a huge proprtion of kiwis.

Maori most similar "sister languages would have to be Hawaiian and easter island have similar words but are different
