aerodynamic 120 v outside "Porch/door Light"

Postby ae6black » Mon Dec 29, 2014 7:14 pm

When I built my TD, I was in a hurry to just finish it so I could get to using it for cold weather camping. Since I generally only use campgrounds with 120 V power, I never hooked up any kind of 12V system. I am toying around with the idea of adding some kind of Porch/Door light that would tie into my existing Wiring just inside the door where I have an inside light mounted. It would be a simple matter of drilling a hole through the TD wall and mounting a light unit. My problem is I've never seen a light that is watertight, 120 V and would go down the highway well that has a independent switch on it. Anybody have any ideas of what kind of lighting unit would work. As it is, I just plug in a construction light on a tripod that I move all around my camp site where ever I need light. My galley has plenty of light and I don't need any extra light in that area.

Wish Everybody a Happy New Year!

Art,

A drop light with a hook would work pretty well and be easy to install...

Aerodynamic goes out the window as soon as you install anything permanent. :R

That said, you can add a rotary or push button 120 volt switch to most any fixture.

this light work pretty good on solar power... lights up the whole area around the doors... has a low setting, and bright when it is activated by motion! greatest thing is no wiring!

That's an idea I never thought of. The only question I have is about longevity. However if I could mount this right in front of the TD on my big storage box, this could work out really well. It also wouldn't have to be a permanent mount.

It seems to last quite a while, we parked in a dark wooded area for 3 days, and it was just as bright after the 3 days... I think because of it being pretty dim and being an LED when on standby.. helps it last longer! it has a little pin that you can turn it off completely when you don't want a porch light on...
