I have had so many garage cleanup days in the past 6 months, I can't count. But by the end of the day, I am only half done. So I have to move everything back into the garage until the next cleanup day. And it starts all over again. It is 1000% better than it used to be though. I just have to get over the attachment to the lumber. Then figure out how to get rid of it.

On the subject of Wood....

That's a common problem. I started by making a cart that allows me to sort shorts
into species and lengths. I built it so that I had 1,2,3,and 4' compartments. Under
them there were 1,2, and 3' horizontal ones too. All the pieces that didn't fit high
standards went into the neighbor's kids' play box for constructing 'things'. Even then
I culled some exotics out for glue ups and accents... I still have a couple bushels to
many of that.

My parents neighbor has graciously offered to burn anything I don't want.

Pchast, I read your post first thing this morning. Hmmmmm, Random post. Why is this man telling me how he sorts his underwear? Then, I finally got through the fog of last night's Benadryl and realized that you were talking abot cleaning out my garage. I know. It has to be done. I like your idea though.

Back at it yesterday. Continued to make some working room in the garage and picked up the steel for the trailer frame. Still have more prep before I can start on on the frame though. :-(

I have also been looking at the profile of the Cub. It seems to me that the curves on the lower ends are a little more than I want to deal with. I have decided to go with the Grumman 2 instead. I am still going to put it on the 5 wide frame. The profile assumes a 4 wide frame so will look into that to see if there is any impacts to the wall cuts.
Doesn't look like it. Just a profile after all.

I haven't gotten much further than laying out the ellipse points on the painters paper I taped together last weekend. Cleaning and Christmas prep taking priority. I also haven't been happy with the taped together sheets of painter's paper and have been searching for reasonably priced 48" rolls so have been putting off the effort until I had a better option. While wrapping a present, I noticed that my wrapping paper had a 1 inch square grid pattern on the back. It got me to thinking that the grid pattern might be helpful in my profile drawup. It would be better if it was a 48" roll but I think the grid is more important to me. Since I am cheap, I think I am going to buy a roll once the after Christmas sales start. I'll let you know how it goes.

I spent all day yesterday cutting up the steel and prepping it for the welder to come by. I want it to just suck up one of his days as my budget doesn't allow for the beer that multiple visits would cost me. While icing my back from the stoop labor last night, I started looking up the registration effort for Washington State. Seems easy enough. I am going to get it registered as a utility trailer before any teardrop bits get added. I think it is going to have to run less than legal for a bit while I get it to a weigh station first and then over to the registration place. Definitely going to need to save my receipts as they are going to want to see them too. It seems like they are also going to want to see photos all along.

The target is to have all the welding done over the weekend following New Years. Maybe my welding buddy will have sworn off beer for his resolution.

My friend Chris came over to get started on the trailer welding. We have it squared up, the tongue on and the a cross member in.

While he worked, I cut a cross member to length and proceeded to catch fire. Don't worry, Burning clothes smell way different than melted metal. I noticed it quickly and put myself out before it got through the first layer.

As I expected, He is off the beer for the new year so I was able to pay him back with a floor show. The entertainment kind of wore off when I couldn't find the weld brush that I had been using 10 minutes before he got here. So we had to use the wire brush on a drill. Oh well, it worked but still am wondering what dimension that brush is in now. Off to Lowes for another one or 5.

I just got a welding jacket (heavy canvas with fire retardant in it as well as leather sleeves)

I love the label it says
"do NOT was or dryclean"

Mrs Felixx wishes more of my gear had that label

I wasn't expecting to catch fire. The cotton Scottevest traveler shirt has served me well during my no luggage travels. It was past its prime on my last trip through Africa and I almost left it there but couldn't think of a proper ceremony and throwing it in the trash was non ceremonious enough. It has served me well on this welding project but now it is time to give it up to the fashion gods (i.e. the trash collectors).
