Hello from Oakland

Hi All
I've been a long time lurker and have used this site to research numerous issues during the partial rebuilding and restoration of a 1956 Shasta 1500 which you can find documented over on Vintage Trailer Talk, where I'm known as Gone Kayaking and my trailer's name is Aquadream blog is aguadream.blogspot.com . After working on the Shasat in 2011, and traveling about 10,000 miles with it during the past three years, I'm both ready to downsize and for a new project. I'd like something that I can tow behind a suby.

I'm going to get one more season out of my Shasta and then will sell it to finance the build. Not sure what design....likely at least partly a woody with a galley on the back. Quite drawn to the idea of a convertible like the Kaylor models.. though being able to put a rack on top would also be cool-- has anyone tried putting in a sliding sun/moon roof? Size 5x8 NT trailer. Shape-- Grumman or Travelear shape rather than Benroy. I'm intrigued by the simplicity of foamies as well. The idea of sending the cut work off to a CNC machine is awfully tempting.

Whatever I build will need to be able to handle modest off road-- please point me to threads about leaf spring vs torsion axle on this topic.

I have the basics in terms of tools (circular saw, jig saw, kreg, dremel multi tool, drill)

Would be interested in doing a meet up with other teardrop builders in the east bay.
