Hello from Ontario, Canada

Postby Bandi » Thu Jan 08, 2015 9:46 pm

Hey everyone, I'm Aaron and I've been pondering a teardrop build for a few years now. I collect vintage Volkswagens and love camping, so this would be a perfect combination. I'm in the earliest stage of my build, that is, looking at pictures of trailers and looking for a frame for sale. Hoping to build something light enough that I can tow it with a classic Beetle.

Found this site by accident, but it looks incredible!

A few of my other ongoing projects:

My '52 Beetle (Work in progress)

My "Truck" and my '83 Mexican Beetle

And my '69 Beetle which is basically my daily driver when it's not winter.

I would think 4x8 low profile built light would work for you. Just try to build light and make the trailer floor as low as you can.have fun with your build

Hi Bandi.
Greetings from frigid Ontario. There is a small group that tries to camp together spring and fall. They usually post in the Ontario section here, or on the Tearjerkers site (in the TD friends site accessed above). Turkey Point is the spring venue for 2015. Where are you from (general area)? I'm out of Whitby and have a small MG infestation at my place...hope to see you out at the campgrounds.

Hi Bandi
Always like to welcome more Old Car Guys, That are interested in TD's also.
Bit of a VW lover myself ( have had several over the years)
And yes, TD's are a good choice to tow behind a VW.

PS
Cooler yet are TD's made from VW's

Dan need to chime in here with a picture of the VW Beetle pulling the small replica trailer that appears on the 2015 Teardrop & Tiny Trailer Calendar.

I'm just east of you in the Belleville area. That's awesome about the MGs, I'm a big fan! (I'll own a British racing green MGB GT some day!)

Welcome Bandi! Being a VW fan you may or may not have seen these, Brian planted a seed in my pea brain:

I really like the way this guy incorporated the beetle rear windows into the teardrops doors, along with the use of the rear fenders, running boards, wheels, hub caps, etc.
Gives it a semi custom nostalgia look. This one is way cool! The owner may even be a member here.

And of course the Rat Rod look gets me going too!

Awesome! (I need those taillights from the first trailer for my '52 bug! haha)

I was considering using Beetle fenders, even possibly integrating a Beetle roofline... but I'm still in the dreaming phase of my build!
