I used type 111 tight bond glue an applied it with a paint roller with a 3/16 foam roller, Type 111 cost more, but dries slower so it gives you more working time,,helping were my 2 grandsons, extra hands are a must for big pieces...finished an rolled out it looked great,

for large areas I use a 6" roller (made by cutting a 12" one in half, I make my 2", 3" and 4" rollers the same way) then roll a stripe of glue or two , work the cloth into it, roll another few stripes, and repeat. the key to this is to lay out and mark the fabric edges and corners ahead of time, this helps keep things aligned as you fold the cloth in.
It may be the area of the country I live in, but I use TBII and only have issues with it drying to fast when i glue in direct sunlight, hotter, dryer areas may be different.

I have painted my tear to match my cj5, It has 3 coats on rustolem , what I did was first coat with a 9" x1/2" nap, 2econd with next size smaller in , then sanded to just take off fuzz with 100 grit, then the 3rd with 1/4" foam roller, ill let that dry for a month, then wet sand an spray a top coat an trim..Ill post pics tomorrow when It sees the sun for first time. 8)
