Does any one has pictures of their wiring in a build

Postby Ron Dickey » Tue Feb 10, 2015 12:43 am

Every where I look I see shots of out sides of trailers and finished insides and shots of some electrical parts.

But does any one have shots of an organized wiring before the walls went in.

I have tried to organize mine and or label the lines as I run them so if anyone in the future finds them they know what went where. My most recent wiring is a repair from a goof and looks like bunch of dropped wires on the floor. :?

I know those who are very organized have it very tight and clean and thought maybe people who do not understand wiring might like to see some organized work and planed out schematics and their application.

My first trailer did not have any wiring in it except some never used speaker wire. The only wires were the ones for the lights for the road. My new one has switches and plugs and will have 2 batteries but I am wiring it backward running the wires from where the battery will be to where the light or plug will be. I use a volt meter set on ohm (uses battery in meter to run electricity through line and read it) to check the lines.

If you do not have pictures maybe you can send us to a site that is the ideal. 8)

These are examples but just of small areas no pictures of a inside wall with wires running so those who are new at it can get an idea.

this one shows drawing and next page the application.

this person routed out places where wire and lights connected.

each of these offer some other insight into the build of a trailer and it's parts as well.

Ron -

Not sure if this is applicable to your situation as I had a lot of room to work with but here's part of mine:

I built from the inside out and my wall cavities were 1-1/2" which I filled with rigid polyurethane insulation after I ran the wiring, which was sandwiched in grooves in the foam.

I used a variety of braided copper wire/cable depending on the circuit. For the 110V AC I used grounded outdoor extension cords; 10 ga for the shore power, 12 ga for the air conditioner, 14 ga for the refrigerator/freezer and microwave circuits.

Here is a good shot of how not to do it. Look to the right at the edge of the picture. There are 5 circuits, some 12 volt dc , some 120 ac and switches for the DC and the AC outside porch light all crammed into a shallow single box. I needed an elephant to set on it to get the cover on. It looks like the one directly across on the far wall. I did use a flip switch for the ac and a rotary for the dc so I could tell who was who in the dark by feel.

Here is the DC porch I did use an 1156 amber " bug light " :laughter:

Here is an old post that may help some of the newer folks to understand the AC side of life.

Although my build is not the normal build because of the roof, I did document my wiring, nearly every step of it, in my photo gallery.

I started by calculating what I thought I needed (back before LED):

Image

Then, I made myself a colored drawing:

Image

Then, I bought colored electrical tape and matched my wiring to the colored drawing so that at any connection area, you can see which line it is, where it goes and what it is used for...:

Image

I took pictures of everything that I could think of. I even documented soldering and heat shrink sleeves, tools used, etc. In my own way, I did the best that I feel I could.

Wiring? Here's the fusebox on the inside:
Image

The red and black 10 ga wires on the bottom of the cabin come from the battery and feed into the fusebox that't behind the ceiling:

Image

The cluster of wires are 14ga coming from the fusebox and out of the ceiling and run to the reading light, fan, powerpoints etc.

Image

Those last three sets of wires run into the galley and terminate at a powerpoint, a USB charger, and the hatch light.

I hope this helps.
