As far as paint goes, I went to Lowes and bought 3 gallons of good exterior paint at $5/can. It was in the discount batch of paint that people didn't buy because the color was wrong or some other reason. I am going use it to seal my roof then paint it with the silver paint that I really like.

I ran a very unscientific test yesterday of the paneling I am planning on using to roof the tear. I took a strip of it and put it in a styrofoam cup from the cafeteria here at work (you don't think I have time to experiment at home do you?) and filled it with the cafeteria's boiling water. You should hve seen the look on the cafeteria manager's face. After an hour or so I could peal off the paper 'wood picture' (no real surprise there). As of today the laminates are as tight as new and there is no swelling of the wood at all. I am impressed.

I checked out this stuff and some other paneling at Menards yesterday. Some of it is paper product and fewer are real wood laminate like the material I will be using. I will try it and see if it will bend as rquired. My only concern is that the panels have a dado cut every 3-6 inches to make it look more 'real'. The cuts go about 1/2 way through the panel, but they will be on the inside (across the width). I will put Liquid Nails the length of each dado, bend very carefully, nail with the air nailer and see what happens. SNAP!!!!

Didn't the old timers use ac painted (varnished) canvas over their Masonite roofs ??? That 's gotta ' be strong and as long as the surface coating is maintained , pretty weatherproof ...Paneling , especially good paneling (wood ) should do fine under similar circumstances.... Fiberglass cloth or aluminum , even better.... You should see how crappy (excuse me ) the tops of the FEMA trailers are ... like aluminum pie plate thickness over nothing!!!!!! .... and the taxpayers are paying a premium for them from a few select companies ... politics ???

Wayward ... What the (your word here ) is the Fish ... ???? Doing a sideshow at the Carney ?? I do a great impression of a "Man Eating Chicken" ...hahahaha Just way too cool !!!! Got more pics than that little stamp thingie'.????

I was disappointed to find that the paneling I was going to use from Menards was apparently switched to another cheap Chinese manufacturer again. The paneling I had was really nice wood-wise but the new stuff looks like bad 2-ply lauan. I did find some other paneling that was a little nicer (didn't have the dados in it and bends easily) but it isn't as nice as the first stuff. If only had known back then....

I guess I will do a little water test on a piece of one of these sheets and if it passes then I will use it. If not, then $12 wasted in experimentation and back to the drawing board.
