Any plans for Airstream like trailer?

Postby ioan » Thu Feb 12, 2015 6:20 pm

I want to move up from my 4x8 teardrop I built and make a 6x12 Airstream like trailer.
Anyone has any plans or photos of the construction of one of those so I have an idea on how to make the frame to have nice round corners?

Thank you!

Airstreams are very difficult to build. That is why they are so expensive. Do you have the ability to round flat aluminum into a twinkie shape?

This might help. Not an Airstream, but a vintage cousin using the same construction techniques. I'm following his thread since I have the same trailer. He is doing a total restoration.

Here are 5 foot and 7.5 foot domes. By cutting them in 1/2 it would make the front and rear rounded section much easier than sheet metal fabrication. Then its just purlins and short walls. For the round front and rear walls cut your top and bottom wall plates from plywood.

Bob,
That place is almost in my back yard. If I ever get un-unemployed, they look to be a source for the corners of the bread loaf trailer I've been wanting to build.
Take care,

This may be the first build on here along those lines:

It turned out very nice.
