Chomping at the bit....updates as they happen

Postby Lumpy223 » Wed Feb 11, 2015 7:55 am

Hi folks, new guy checking in here.

I just ordered a new trailer. Its an RC trailer 7x12 with a ramp and an 18 inch V nose. It looks a lot like this 6x12 but mine is white.

I ordered it with an optional 15x30 inch window to be installed high on the curb side, roof vent fan/light combo, and an RV door latch in the side door.

I hit two or three biker events a year and and camp while I am there. This will allow me to take either the golf cart or the bike, depending on the event. I wont be turning it into a full blown camper but I will be adding some creature comforts to it. I have done a ton of reading here and am really itching to get started. One of the additions will be a Murphy bed. I have already started buying up some of the electrical supplies. I plan on running 12 volt LED lighting off a computer power supply but will have a battery on board just in case I find myself without 110 available (pretty rare).

This is a great forum and you folks have already taught me a lot, and I am anxious to keep learning. I will post pics on my updates as they come but it will be a slow proccess. Gonna be a long 4 to 5 week wait until my trailer comes in......

This sounds very similar to the build I will do! Definitely post updates, pictures are always helpful!

I'm actually debating between a Stealth Titan 7x12 (further away) and a RC Trailers 7x12 (local builder). Does your RC Trailer look decent in quality? I still haven't seen one in person.
It certainly looks nice in that picture (minus the color being diff from yours).

I will admit that I havent looked at a lot of trailers but the RC line looked decent for the money. I did do a lot of looking and pricing on line.

One of the things I am hoping to do is build a cabinet in the V section to hide all the electrical in. I was thinking of building a box for the battery that would slide in the cabinet at floor level like a drawer. The problem with that was the drawer/box would be a bugger to pull out or push in. A quick stop at Harbor Freight and I found these awesome ball bearing rollers that I can attach to the bottom of the box to make it a LOT easier. They were only .89 each.

Today I had someone give me a smallish size 100 amp load panel with 8 breakers in it. Might be a bit of overkill but it was free, one more item off the list. I scavenged a computer power supply from an old unused PC. Picked up some small stuff like switches & led indicators yesterday. The digital battery meter should be here tomorrow. Would be nice to have a bunch of the small stuff on hand for when I finally get the trailer.

Thank you.

It was freezing here today with winds gusting 30 to 40 mph. Lots of drifting as well. I think tomorrows high is supposed to be -1 degree. I hate this weather.

Picked up a wheel chock for the bike from Harbor Freight yesterday. Caught it on sale and had a coupon for 20% off. Hope to get the holes drilled in my aluminum switch panel tomorrow.

The beat goes on.....

Decided to work on my panel I wanted for the V section. The LED on the right indicates 110 power. The one on the left indicates the computer power supply is on line. The rockers will be used for a small light and the vent fan. The toggle will switch between 12 volt from the computer power supply or the battery. The square button will allow me to turn off the voltage meter. I still have to apply the labels.

Far from perfect but it will work for me. :D
