Hello! From Alaska

Postby Da'engineer » Wed Feb 18, 2015 6:15 pm

Hello People

I am Michael Meyer, 23, from Anchorage, Alaska. I am currently serving in the USAF as an Aircraft Armament systems technician. I am three years deep into my Aerospace Engineering degree and enjoying (sarcasm) every second of it.

This year I will be building my first tiny travel trailer this year still working out some of the quirks. My wife has some crazy demands for camping more then a night and I am motivated to make those happen. My biggest leap in this whole design is my wife wants to be able to take a shower so I've ran through many designs to fit it in a compact manner and have finally figured out a functional way to make it work. Now the challenge of designing the pumping and electrical

Other then that will be starting to build sometime next month I will post up my build step by step.

And if you ever want to come to Alaska don't be afraid to PM me I till tell you the best things to do in your limited time up here. It really is a wonder.

And a shower curtain on a slide out bar.

The only issue with that is me and my wife will be PCSing to our next duty station during November and we will be traveling through some remote locations so we want to be able to stay in our trailer rather then hotels on the way to save some money.

So she would rather not shower in the cold so inside is a must unless I can heat it some how or sell it to her.

Maybe a small drop floor (shower pan) with canvas sides to guard against wind and cold. With a shower curtain around the inside so One can sit down and shower.
The bad part is the bed would have to have a cutout for the drop floor and special bed sheets.

I've ran through options like that before all where quickly rejected.

Right now my prototype (third) has a 30"x36" showering area. The way this is accomplished is running the bed width ways in the trailer since my trailer is 6 feet wide. by 9 feet long.

If she wants a shower inside.......you will be building a "Standie" ....Not a Teardrop?? :(
Good luck with your plans?????

I would love to make it into a tear drop trailer. I would enjoy possiblly making a expansion ceiling but I am not highly competent on my sowing skills.

Welcome to this group of info as you can see. Good luck on a indoor shower, most indoor showers are in standees or cargos. I would love to come up to Alaska some day, but can't see it happening anytime soon. Looking forward to following your build no matter what you decide to build.

Thanks! I am looking forward to it as well. My goal is to keep a very in depth build journal. I will post up a link to it once I start it!

"No shower" is the main reason Peggy uses for not camping with me, that and "Who will take care of the cats?" It has gotten to the point that i am working on a design for a "standy" with a tear style galley. Not sure i will ever build it as I was planning on building a tear, but ended up buying one.

My wife will go camping without a shower present. We go backpacking all time. It's just we will be using the trailer to PCS in and she would like to be presentable during the mood.

Me I could give a care less.

But hey... as the saying goes happy wife happy life.

Although lately I've been questioning that saying.
