I contacted Hemet Valley RV about buying 40 feet of Filon. I asked if I could get it pre-cut as I need sheets that are 66 wide, not 103 inches they sell. They said they don't cut to width, just lengths. I got a quote of $25.50 a linear foot. I would like to do my Teardrop in two side pieces, 15 foot long and a 16 foot piece for the roof/hatch. My question is, it the price good? Or is there another sourse in SoCal?

John: I saw your post and was stunned by the price. I've never purchased Filon so I apoligize for sticking my nose in this. It costs me less than $400 to skin (minus the trim) a 5x10 tearop with .040 mill finish aluminum. And I'm in the middle of no-where and they deliver it from three hours away (along with any steel sheet the local welding shop needs).

Tony, thanks for your reply. I know I am still stunned by the price. My problem is I need continuous lengths that are 66 inch wide. Hard part is finding that width. Can you tell me how you attached your aluminum to your trailer?

I used the float method. No glue. Trim, doors, fan etc. Sealant under all the trim of course.

I'd keep looking I priced it at Colaws in Joplin MO about 5 yrs ago at half that price I wouldn't think that it would have double in 5 yrs. If I remember right though I had also priced it at a local Kansas City RV dealer and they wanted about twice what Colaws wanted at the about the same time. Colaws is a RV salvage/rebuild shop that keeps it in stock on a roll and the other place might have had to order it in. That might have made the difference. Anyway I'd keep looking.

$1000! My wife complains when she sees a $100 bill from Lowes or Home depot. I'm a tightwad, like Jack Benny.

Excluding the cost of my HF trailer, I think my trailer will be under $1200 for materials. Not much for a camper that will give me 10 years of good service.
