Here is a simple youtube of a Wiley window

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ft75_VwSqvs

Mine will be more complex with screen and curtains and wedges with ornate handles.
if fails the over all hole and screw holes will be the same as those from Lil' Bear teardrop trailer window which are on my other trailer the box kite.

My Wiley window will be a preassembled window insert including screen for a set size hole.
The curtain rod will be built so I can swing it down and let in more light and air. What I need to figure out is if the screen gets ripped how to replace it with out pulling the entire window.

Someone who likes to carve on wood could make a very ornate one with brass fancy woods.

here is an example where the owner used the wedge as a curtain rod too.

it also allows you to do the window opening any shape you want.

the opening would also allow you to remove the window glass and insert an small fan or AC if you wanted to.

stained glass would be cool :) you would need some sort of soft foam around the edges of the window so the water would be stopped and not leak through.

you could even have a tray that would fit in so when it rained you could pass in the food with out opening the door.

you could drill a hole in the side of the wedge and the side angle piece and run a bolt through so no one could giggle it loose.

You could even insert a gun port

Ok I can take the window completely out and pass food through it , but a gun port? didn't think of that. I used cedar fence boards sanded down. Thinking light weight. If I could do it anyone can. Just know that it takes time. I had left over screen so I just got a stick of metal and made my own.

Be sure to leave the bottom of the window and glass beveled out a little to keep water from damming up and running into you camper. If you look at the pic of my window you'll see that all I've got is a small strip on the bottom for the glass to rest against. The bottom was sanded to slope downward so water just runs out and down. No way it will build up and leak into the camper. Larry

are there different designs for the wedge. Should if be solid or cut like a wood spring.

How does it work and should it have a lock so if you hit a bump when pulling the trailer it will not pop out and you loose the window.? :scratchthinking:

has anyone done any fancy designs with their Wiley Window, curtains, color.

I plan to have a screen that will insert like the glass, make a figure or design on top of the wedge. I am also thinking of putting in a bolt through the side to keep it in place making it harder for anyone who wants to brake it in.

any creative thoughts here?

I put whitebait net mesh on the outside of mine.
It will stop most bugs and has a bit of security (Stainless steel mesh)

I will post pics tomorrow

Building with scraps is exactly how I did mine. In addition, I previously "water tested" my windows during our initial camping trip and they worked excellent. This week, in Florida, we have had some massive, blinding rain storms, so I figured let's see how they do sitting still in an absolute downpour that lasts several hours with no canopy. I am happy to say literally not a single drop of water entered the camper with all 4 open.

I am very slow at building my trailer, but in so doing it this way I have had time to think out each part of my trailer. In some places I am stuck and in other I just need to find time. Between work and home improvements and family, I am slowly getting there.
My present project is the doors.
This brings me to Wiley windows that I will have, this leads to this addition to the Wiley Window. on the inside you are stuck with a wide cut out. My doors are hollow so I have an outside and an inside. Most of my light will come from my Trolley top so I can play with the design on the outer skin. This can be cut out as a image. one person did a Mickey Mouse head, most are square.
Halloween pumpkin designs (this being Halloween) and all the designs they can do with out it falling off are an example what what you can so on the outside.
Example of a normal one is michaelrsydney his unit is below
113850 115196
a really nicely done unit.
But there are designs you could cut out, now Micheal has an outside screen which I want to do too. But it does not need to be square although that would be the ezy way to do it. You could do a circular port look or a lots of holes to make a flower, Cut out the shape of a teardrop, a dog a cat or even butterfly, I drew some idea but have not loaded them onto my galley yet.
you can pull up on google images: "puppy silhouettes", "pumpkin carving ideas" pumpkin one hold more true because they are real cut outs.
In fact you could have the window as a full window and slide in cutouts of different images depending on what you want to say.
