Welcome aboard resq229 ...
Good luck on your off-road build!!! Giving us a few ideas of what you expect or want from your build will help us feed information back to you ... e.g., :
--- Are you looking for a serious off-road ... light weight, short length, very high clearance, to be pulled with a 4x4 with similar attributes, full articulating hitch, etc.
--- Do you want a hard-side or soft-side trailer or maybe a small trailer with a collapsible tent, are you looking at teardrops or maybe a stand-up trailer, etc.
This list can go on and on; it is just my suggestion, but making a list of what you really want to build will help you immensely in deciding where you are going to go ... what is needed now and what might be added later and even what material is required, e.g., wood, steel, aluminum, etc. It will also give you an idea of what needs to go where and will allow you to mock-up or layout your trailer on the garage floor ...
I built a converted 6x10 Cargo Trailer for off-road camping, but in my case off-road here is medium serious 4x4 required, but not vehicle damaging super serious. Serious enough that less experienced off road folks turned around ...
I do need to trim brush (to keep the desert pin striping to a minimum) and have on occasion thrown a rock or two in a severe wash out on a hillside grade. Really though, it has performed very well for my use.
Again, welcome aboard and good luck with your build ... post pics and ideas ...
