Hello from S. W. MO

Postby TrailerEd » Thu Mar 12, 2015 5:26 pm

Well if you are reading this then you already know I am new here!
I am looking forward to soaking up some info from a few experienced builders and learn a thing or two along the way!
I am looking to start my first teardrop soon. Been researching for a few years and simply can't wait to get started.
I am a master woodworker/cabinet maker/builder. Okay who made me a master, right?
33 yrs. in the trade self-employed and have always stayed busy. Kinda like a master category to me! But I truly believe we are never done learning.
I am looking to pick some brains, gain some wisdom, learn a few tricks and hopefully make a friend or two along the way. So, hope you don't mind me hanging around some!

First question I have is about torsion axles, so I was hoping that some one could point me in the direction of that group of experts?

Thanks and nice to meet you all!!!

Welcome, Ed? :shake hands:
I know what you mean about being a master Cabinetmaker.
They have never handed out a masters degree in Cabinetmaking as far as I've seen after 45+ years in the trade.
I figure your work speaks for you so who needs the title.
My suggestion is to visit the Design Resources at the top of the page and choose SD Trippers2's Indes (indexes) and go to axles.
Good luck with your build. :D Danny

Thanks Danny,
I too have never seen a classification for master cabinetmaker. Maybe I will create a school. Ha Ha
Thanks for the info. I did find an answer to my question in a thread already. This is a pretty cool place to get input!
Hopefully I can make a few final decisions soon and get a trailer started.
Thanks again

Welcome to the Forum!
Good luck with your build!
There is a ton of great information here!
I am not a wood worker by any means (actually at the farthest other end of the spectrum)....I work in metal only and build cars & chassis!
As far a Torsion axle? Great Choice :applause:

I talked to them yesterday re: a #8 Torsion axle for my new build Kermit! Only one week wait time for a custom built axle.
Also......make sure you build 5" wide!

Welcome Ed, sounds like the teardrop construction will be a walk in the park with your cabinet/woodworking experience. What part of S.W. Missouri are you from? My mother (God rest her soul) was born and raised in Crane. Good luck and welcome again...Redneck Teepee :D :D :D

Exactly why I am looking at the Torsion axle. So I can get 5 wide.
Thinking I will go 5 x 8 on first one. I like the look of the 8'. But also the room of the 10'.
Not sure but I plan to sell the first one after a few uses to get a real feel for what I like and what others would like.
Thanks for the encouragement!

Howdy Ed and welcome to the forum. We're a couple hundred miles north of you in Rayville. our trailer isn't a Tear, kinda a cross between a tear and a standy that lost in a startreck dream but it's comfortable. We'll be head your way in late April on the way to Beavers Bend could maybe swing by on the way if you'd like to see it.

Thanks,
I actually will not be around at that time. Going to see the grand daughters for a few days then!

But I do appreciate the offer. And, it says a lot for just how friendly people on this blog are. Have had a real nice welcome here. Thanks to all. 8)

Wow, gorgeous kayaks! You truly are a master. Very nice work Sir!
I was researching how to build them a couple years ago. Would love to try one someday. But first the tear drop.
I see you are also a MO guy. Nice to meet you.
Maybe one of these days I can get some pictures of things posted up to share.
