Acai juice, is it any good...

Postby Arne » Sat May 27, 2006 9:10 am

I have a relative pushing this stuff. There is very little on google except that it is the best thing since toilet paper. Only one report that says it may be a great anti-oxidant..... oh, it is a pyramid thing, started by the guy that was involved with amway, I think.....

I'm curious, because this relative is going to be visiting (lucky us) and I'm sure I'll be subjected to some draining sales pitch. Anyone tried it or have any first or second hand knowledge about it?

Arne,
I haven't heard of the stuff and if it was any good, I'm sure TDN would already have me drinkin' the stuff as she is way up on all that stuff.
Once upon a time, I did get into Amway, just to "help" my sister's cause...
Oh yaa... PV & BV, buying stuff as an authorized wholesale distributor at inflated retail prices.
I did get involved with another pyramid deal later on, similar to the one you're talking about... It was a super blue green algea deal and the products worked!!! Only problem, even at the distributorship level, I couldn't afford to keep buying the monthly recommended amounts of the stuff, but it sure worked good...

I stepped into the Scamway puddle once very briefly myself. I can't imagine how the average person could ever make any money at it. The quantities of stuff you have to buy to make it worthwhile would require you to have a store front just to pawn it every month.

The pyramid schemes are good at making your friends and family want to avoid you.

Arne, acai juice is supposed to be extremely high in anti-oxidants, but you don't need to be getting it through a pyramid thing if you really want it. Dr. Perricone (of the Perricone Prescription book) wrote about it and highly recommends it. I haven't tried it myself, but I know that some health food stores and GNC-type stores are starting to carry it. If you really want to find out more about it, before the relative tries to push it on you, check out this place. Of course you can also drink pomegranite juice or eat lots of blueberries if you want to keep up with the antioxidants. I kind of feel that the whole acai thing is a bit of a fad right now, since it is not readily available, expensive, and the companies keep mentioning which Hollywood stars are drinking it. At some point, when it is more readily available, the fad will probably wear off.

I can't find the chart anymore, but acai supplies about 2.5 times the next one which I think is black raspberry followed by blueberry.. considering what they tell you to take, 1-2 oz per day, I think I'll do this instead.... watch out Starbucks, here I come...

Now that Noni juice has lost it's appeal, this stuff has taken its place.

It too will, eventually, bite the dust as yet another magic "cure" for all illnesses.

Once I was almost rear ended by someone driving a car with a "Lose Weight Now; Ask Me How" sitcker; rather ironic since I'm a dietitian who likes to collect information on quack nutrition fads.
