Battery disconnect for PD4045

I'm a bit confused........the directions for the PD4045 state "DC DISCONNECT: For installations incorporating an external DC disconnect switch, connect battery POS (+) and the BATTERY POS. + lug to the same pole on the external disconnect switch. Remove the JUMPER. Connect the ALTERNATE BATTERY POS. + to other pole on the external disconnect switch."

Using a marine heavy-duty switch such as http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00144BF9Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 why couldn't it be placed inline between that battery + and the + lug of the PD4045??

I believe what its trying to say that yes you need to connect the Battery (+) to one side of disconnect and continue a power lead from same terminal on to converter positive (+) terminal , this will probably keep charging circuit intact for battery, the second wire off "other" terminal of disconnect switch powers the DC FUSE panel when you remove jumper per FIG 3, in this way you are not really disconnecting battery (completely) from PD 4045 but only disconnecting the power to fuse panel which the JUMPER previously supplied...

You can physical just put the disconnect in positive lead and just a off/on switch but I dont know if PD 4045 can operate safely with battery totally disconnect

Opening the battery disconnect switch, when wired that way disconnects ALL 12VDC output, even when connected to shore power. It works differently from simply opening the 12V + line to the battery, which will keep 12VDC output active when connected to shore power.

Right!..... All was trying to illustrate is way the PD 4054 documents it in instructions...

Really it will depend on what OP really wants in way of disconnect.... BUT like "you" I would not remove strap and wire disconnect as illustration but to just wire it as a switch in line for battery to terminal on unit... This should let converter in unit still supply DC power with battery out of circuit (I believe) but isolates battery from all parts of electrical system......

We were looking at this very issue this afternoon after hooking up our unit. My dad was concerned that the battery couldn't be totally isolated from this system. I wonder is there a preferred method here? 2 switches?
