Help! Trying to remove plywood walls

Postby Jek3FL » Sun Mar 15, 2015 1:28 pm

How the heck do I get these bad boys out?? Most of them just spin and are sunk in to the wood.

Any tips??

Let me guess: You're pulling the plywood off the inside of your cargo trailer. I've never had this problem but have seen it before here. You might google around the forum a bit.

I'd try drilling off the heads and then snip and grind the shafts off after removing the plywood.

Those things are like one way screws;they go in and they do not loosen. That's great to prevent shake out on rough roads but a PITA for renovating. .

Tony's suggestion to drill out / off the heads should work and reduce the damage to the plywood. Someone had the idea to drill out around the scrrew head with a small holesaw. But those require a pilot drill to not wander.

We faced the same problem, just pry out on the lumber while you unscrew it with your drill and they'll come out. their dumb 4sure!

I had the same problem . I used a plug cutter .It will fit over the screw head and cut through the plywood with a steady hand . It will make a hole in the plywood but when you reinstall just attach on a different place and if you are using panel or such it will cove the hole . Lowes should have them . good luck

I ended up using a similar concept. I took a roto drill and drilled out around each screw head and then pulled them out with a small crow bar. Reattached with different screws that had bigger heads and then filled the holes.
