New guy here. Is this an original Benroy?

Postby Wishno » Thu Mar 05, 2015 7:22 pm

Hey guys my name is Josh and I have been lurking here for a few months now and picked up my teardrop project a few days ago. Its going to need a decent amount of work and the whole galley and rear hatch needs to be rebuilt but for my first teardrop I think it will do. The guy I bought it from claimed it is an original 56 Benroy but i can't confirm. Can anyone identify any of these parts?

Some things say yes but then theirs the obvious ad ons.

The short, narrow front tongue and hardware are what original Benroys used. But a lot of other people used that stuff too.

The front window, some cabinets and lights in the rear are definitely ad ons.

One thing would tell. A view of the old galley.

Happy Trails

Thanks for the response. The guy I bought it from put in the front window but he thought the cabnets in the front were original. He was going to restore it so the galley has been taken out and I need to make a new one. Does the I interior roof panel say anything about it? I will put up a build thread soon because I'm totally new to this and will need a lot of guidance.

Hi Josh,

Welcome to the board. Benroy's had a VIN on the frame. It would be stamped on top of the frame under the red rag in the first pic. In the build section is a build of a '55 Benroy. Lots of good info in that build. I have a '55 Benroy. It is all disassembled, but completely original. Where are you located?

Im in Vancouver Washington. Right across the river from Portland Oregon. Thanks for the link. I read though your thread and it appears that yours and mine have much or the same hardware. I do have the original water tank for mine so I will dig it up for you and maybe you can identify it. Here is the stamp on my frame.

Your VIN is correct for a 1956 Benroy. The last 2 numbers are the year. The build I referred to is not my build. It was Ted's build of his Benroy. He has since sold it. Mine has the original galley if you need pictures of it.

Ya that would be great. Also what size tow ball do you use? My 2" one didn't fit and I couldn't find any information on what size they used.

The Benroy ads say 2" ball. I can not get mine on a 2" ball. I will try a 1 7/8" on Monday and see if that fits.

Everything I found says 2" ball. Mine fit loosely on a 1 7/8" ball. It would not go onto the 2" ball. I cleaned, lubricated and operated the hitch. It fit onto the 2" ball without any issues. Hope this helps.
