Thanks Sheddie. The build thread is a bit of a monster, isn’t it? I guess I have made it more of a diary than a summary, and perhaps have shown way more detail than needed (…or is even comprehended due to tunnel vision effect), but the positive feedback I get from my fellow TD’ers and the fact that I try to do something on the build most every day has me posting frequently.

WW, I still haven’t tested the 3M green on the foam to glass/epoxy. Depending on how that pans out, if it doesn’t, I will probably use PL on the front curve over the epoxy. I’m liking the TB2 applied thinly for the rest of the foam to wood; when clamped properly I have had good luck with it and it is much more thrifty than all of the other options. The trick is getting a good press everywhere and being able to hold it for the required cure time. For foam to foam I think it will be a thin spread of PL.

Not only is New Zealand a fabulously beautiful country, the people have a friendly laid back attitude and there is not very much of a language barrier to contend with for us English speaking travelers, ‘ay whut mates?

Yesterday, I thickened the pot up to 75/25 poly and made another round. The areas that had 2 or 3 coats of 50/50 still showed some grain, but also had signs of soaking along the grain a lot further than where I had applied it. Based on your feedback I expanded the areas being treated to include the roof seam backers and the corners where the spars meet the top of the ceiling panels.
Image
Image

Hit the end grain on the top and bottom plank of the locker bump out.
Image

Hit the recess for the hatch actuator switch.
Image

Dabbed the brush bristles into the wire holes for the porch lights and around the area where the screws will go to hold the lights in place, even though these will get sealed with goop at install.
Image

The top of the front wall splice was pretty well coated with epoxy from the glass reinforcing, but the lower edge wasn’t so I hit that area well.
Image

Then I went back and hit all of the previous areas again; vent fan frame, ceiling edges, spar ends, marker light recesses, and door seal flanges (shown here).
Image

On the door flange I made sure to hit the edge of the flange with extra attention.

It snowed just about all day Saturday and into the evening. For the most part it was wet with surface temps high enough to melt on contact, but as it cooled down in the evening it started to stick to the cars and grass. Yvette informs me that the crocuses started popping up, and now, as tradition holds, they have been snowed on. Also, I saw robins on the ground on my ride home, so spring is officially here.

Sunny today, but still taking Sunday off to relax and watch the drags 4-wide live from Charlotte.

KC, don't even think about apologizing for the detail in your build journal. It is exactly this kind of detail in your build and many others that give newbies like me (and I'm sure old pros, too) the concepts, ideas and desire to do these builds. Your quality of workmanship is beyond reproach. I cannot tell you how many times I've gone back to your journal and so many others, examining in detail the things you are doing. I really, truly appreciate it!

With my build journal, while nowhere near as detailed as yours, I feel I owe it to the community that has give me so much information and support to provide back to others. Being in Florida, while you guys are getting snow, we had a cold front come in yesterday where I had to wait until after 10am for the temps to go above 60. Yep, that means I can do a bit more simply because it is warmer and low humidity. Got all of my sealer coats on, got my first finish coat on this morning and was actually able to sand, wash and do the 2nd finish coat just a few minutes ago. Now finger crossing time for the overnight dry. If I'm lucky, the port side will be ready in the morning and can be stored while I move on to the starboard side.

When our two builds are finished, we have to get together. If ours is done by June, we'll be coming up to the northeast for a few weeks.

Cool thanks KC.
I was reading in another thread where you had posted about rebating the walls to accept the ceiling sheet witch I was seriously considering but I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to set my trim router up to do it.
If i was to use the fence it came with that's about 6 inches or so long with the obvious gap where the cutters located I suspect it wouldn't run acurate around the wall perimeter. Do you understand what I'm describing?
How would you propose it would bet be done?

The reference is to the M116A3 build starting at this post here.

I'll post a link and my reply in your build thread "Ok here we go...", if you don't mind. :D

Look into this product for sealing your screw penetrations and just about anything else.

Their main website has a lot of sealing product: http://www.eternabond.com/

Thanks for the link. I was thinking I would just use window caulk, but putty is probably better for things that may need to be removed in the future, and I will need to have some for the roof vent any way. Good call.

Non-productive evening, despite making the pilgrimage. :NC

Read up on the Eternabond, its not your basic cheap RV putty.

Thanks Sheddie, I will.

Wednesdays are usually a good build day for me, but yesterday I had to stay late at the day job doing a mixer PM. It took a lot out of me and I was too spent to do anything but crash. :SH

Absolutely, it is a fabulous place to be!

I would love to go back someday. On the other hand, for every place that I have been, there are so many more that I haven't, so when deciding to invest the time and resources the wife and I usually try to pick someplace new to see. If time and budget were no issue, I might be there right now!

There are a couple of exceptions to repeat travel plans: Her parents are interred in Arlington National Cemetery, so we will be going back to DC from time to time... I would still like to see the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, as well; the drags... they don't move the race tracks so you kind of have to go to where they are at; and Poet Creek, of course, I need to get back there.

I'm a bit the same but unfortionatly my trip in June to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand is a repeat trip for me to all 3 but tracy hasn't been to any of them.
I love Thailand so that isn't an issue and havnt been to Malaysia or Singapore since my early 20 so I expect some big changes.
One highlight of my trip is Legoland! It's in johor baru in Malaysia and is supposed to be excellent. I spent days and weeks and months and years building Lego so realy looking forward to it.we are staying in the 5 star hotel there built out of giant lego for a night...expensive but hey not everyday you get to stay in a giant Lego pirate room is it now!

Awesome!

I stayed at Treasure Island on a business trip to Vegas. That was pretty cool, but probably not at all the same.
