Not sure Dale... probably a few more weekends...But I'm running out of time. Racing season is coming fast and I'm trying to get two boats ready. Then I'll be going on the road in June...No more camper work until fall after that.

You better get cracking mike!
I missed my deadline too..daylight savings finishes tomorrow and I wanted it at "lock upstage by then but plans don't always work out.
I might just not change my clocks for a few weeks and pretend I missed that memo;)

Lights look great!
15 years ago I used a 65 impala trunk lid c/w tail lights to build a custom rear roll pan for a 57 Chev PU I built for a fellow.
Always loved the result.
56 Cadillac lenses too long??? Did you mean 59 Caddy lights?? :NC
Keep up the good work until you have to go racing!

Yep. Typo. '59. I would need about 3" to french them... I've got an inch and a half to work with.
Thanks everyone.

Lights came out really nice!

How did you fix the bullet/beehive to the Impala lens? I would have thought that any type of glue or heat would cloud the plastic.

However you did it, they look great. :applause:

Not much accomplished this weekend with family coming in and all... but I did get the tail light mounts installed and the rear closed up. Which is a good feeling. Especially because the tail lights are now my favorite part of the build! I was able to frame in the area, route the back of the mounting plate to create an attachment lip, cut the Luan and fasten it all down. I think the lights really set it off... Now to put them back in the box until after she's painted...

Weekend progress...

Postby Atomic77 » Tue Apr 14, 2015 8:36 am

Sometimes I feel like we work all weekend and accomplish very little...But our bodies tell us otherwise. We are walking around like a couple of old people! This weekend we finished up the "bellypan" or the underside of the tail end. This is something we (I) put off until last because it required some engineering skills to figure out how to attach the ceiling (floor) inside to the frame and how to attach the Luan exterior to the underside of the frame. We had to create attachment points for the Luan and mounting points for the attachment points! But the Luan is now complete on the exterior... so now just a bit of bodywork and we'll be ready for some Filon. Speaking of bodywork... We mixed up some thickened epoxy and spread it into all the seams and taped all the seams with 3" carbon fiber. Then I used my big buster to sand down the epoxy and make the luan joints perfectly flat. It's probably overkill once again, but, I know there will be no movement in the joint under the Filon and the seam won't "print" under the Filon. Just a few more weeks and the Filon will be complete on the exterior. Then we'll get her painted and I can get all the windows and hatches installed so she'll be watertight. Then we can take the Astroliner home again and work on it outdoors...
