A stranger from Ontario, Canada wanders in...

Hi Folks,

I am one of them, them what can't leave well enough alone. It's gotta be fixed, made into something, or upgraded. Hoarder of all back issues of Popular Mechanics, Mechanix Illustrated etc that come my way, I've been aware of the teardrop, and lurking on the outer fringe for a decade or more.

However, most of that last decade, my entire creative output seemed to be focussed on keeping heaps of junk running way past expected life cycle, I was always on the edge of declaring them fit enough to tow something, but then the next thing happened. Having updated the fleet, I think we may be ready.

My sig is kinda to remind me not to get bogged down in perfectionism and get'r'done, finding in the past the first 90% of the project takes the first 99% of the time, and the last 10% takes the other 99% of the time. Coming to realise that average Joe quits at about my 75 or 80, so I should probably move on from the worlds first DNA sensing perfect security doorlock, buy a damn latch and frame the damn door.

Anyway, looking to get "my first one" out of the way, so to speak, for which I probably have enough bits and pieces lying around not to have to buy much. The object of the exercise here of course is to convince the wifey that I should drop $3000 on materials for the "good" one :D

So hi to all, try not to let my sense of humour phase you, I keep leaving the sarcasmatron turned all the way up to 11,

JaggedEdges... (I got a few :D )

Just jealous, wish we had some good wet weather for sure. Hoping and praying that next year that we are just short of having to build an Arc. :D :D :D

Hi ?????
From a fellow Canadian.......But, Please don't hold that against me when contemplating a reply. :R
You seem to have left out a lot of information in your introduction? Anonymity, is not necessary here on the Forum.
What kind of clunkers have you kept running over the years???
And what kind of plans are you running through your head for a Teardrop?
How do you see your self using it?
Are you looking for a social outlet for you and your wife to enjoy? The Teardrop family is amazing!!
Will you traveling long distances? Are you a camper or a traveller?
Have you interacted with other Teardrop owners in the past?
Do you know what a Gathering is?
Gosh.......so many questions and so little time? Camping season is only 16 days away for us (but we didn't have much of a winter on this side) so we have been looking out at the green grass chomping at the bit for the past month.
Keep us posted and start a Build Journal.

Hi and welcome, Jagged Edges. 8) In order to convince your "wifey" to let you put out the 3K, you'll probably get her to buy in more readily if you let her know you are building her a Dream Summer Home on wheels. She can pick a theme and help you plan and decorate it. I know, I know, perhaps that wasn't what you had in mind, but I have had prior experience in convincing a Teardrop Spouse (in this case a WannaBe) that releasing the purse strings could be a real pleasure.
** Good luck on your convincing her, and we are happy to evaluate your method if so needed.

I'm sure you're all very nice folks, but it's been the habit of an internet lifetime for me to remain somewhat ungooglable. Particularly if I'm going to announce "maiden voyage" of a TT here and imply an empty dwelling.

We are campers mostly but have had the odd aberration of a circuitous road trip, touring I guess would be the word. I "grew up" in canned hams for summer vacations, but with my wife, we've only had tents so far, and it's time to get off the ground.

We may get into the social thing in a couple of years, but just getting away has been difficult these last few years, hopefully a TT would let us just up and go at any opportunity, no planning, not much packing, all the necessities are in there.

As for the vehicles, we had a 20 year old compact wagon, which was our runaround and commuter and a 25 year old minivan. Because we're in the Canadian rust belt, all their brothers had gone to the crusher some 10 years ago, and getting parts had got difficult, plus what new parts are around are very low quality cheapies that often as not give out in 12 months, where the originals went 5-10 years. So keeping them moving seemed to be a full time job. We got 300,000 miles out of the wagon and about 220,000 out of the minivan before throwing in the towel. Rust had started getting into worrying places of these by now also. Now "normally" we would have seen the sense in buying used, but with the market still messed up from the 2008 pinch, up to 3 year old used cars were going for damn near new sticker, and up to 10+ years old was way overpriced still, and anything much over that was running into same parts issues we already had. So we got a brand new compact hatch for my wife to commute in .. then earlier this year I picked up a 10 year old replacement minivan, which hopefully will have enough parts around for 5 years or so yet.

And thanks for the warm welcome Joanie, I have to be careful what I convince her of, or rather how strongly, because then she wants it yesterday, so timing it carefully :?
