Cabinet Sources for Non Carpenter

I see many folks build their own cabinets but I am not quite that handy. What are some sources of pre-made cabinets that work in conversions? I have looked at the big box stores and many seem to deep to use. Does anyone have a source for cabinets or tips on modifying ones from the big box stores? I could also use some tips and sources for counter tops.

Look for a contractors or cabinet distributor in your area. Stay away from normal particle board type, as they are heavy and not well made. I have 2 companies in our little area, one does house trailer parts and the other supplies to a gigantic development. In both cases, all of their cabinets are 100% wood and/or plywood. Ready for this, they cost much less than the crap that is sold in the box stores and are much lighter. Yes, you have to put them together, but they are well worth it. My sister (70+) got a set for her house, I showed her how to assemble one, she and a friend did all the rest and installed them.

Bailey Industries is the main one I use. Don't know if they ship or not, but they may well lead you to a local distributor

I build my own, but you might source kitchen cabinets that you assemble yourself. Before assembly, you may be able to cut them back to the depth you need and then assemble . This gets you the face frames and the doors which are the hardest part of the project. You might also look for a retired craftsman that does small jobs more to stay busy then to make a living.

Its not a wood cabinet, but I've got 5 years and two sets of tires on three of these in mine, and they're still holding items on every shelf, full, including heavy canned goods. I used to get cabinet stuff from mobile home supply stores - the cabinets are made light, so the 14x60 MH can be towed down the road. Those supply house need a nice base of mobile homes to operate= like in retirement areas and around military bases where you find a lot of MH parks.

I was just in IKEA on Saturday, they had some real shallow vanity type cabinets.

I think Ikea stuff is too heavy for a lightweight teardrop or standy. The construction of the two items I have put together used those twist clamps to pull the sides together.

Most of the Ikea kitchen base cabinets are available in 24" depth (normal residential) or 15" to save space. I've had an Ikea kitchen for 9 years and have to admit they are very well made. Just use a little glue on the joints when you put them together and they'll hold up just fine.

I bought some nice cabinets in the bath department in lowes they are made to go over a toilet and are shallow and have nice hardware.

Wife ordered me 2 of the Cabela ones Gonefishing used and 3 cargo nets 12x48 going to use 2 of them for grandbabys toys and diapers and clothes 1 for towels and paper plates stuff like that going to see might order 1 more of the shelves for clothes and hang it on back door can't wait for them to get here and get them installed
