Can/has/should it be done?

I'm thinking for a dirt bike.

I have a front receiver for the truck, but all the adult enduro/dual sports I see on front receivers come perilously close to interfering with the headlights or just block them outright.

I know - "Put it inside" and nine times out of ten when I get my folding bed done I could do that, but there will be certain times I want to carry it externally

On the CT or a double on receiver on tow vehicle?
Id not do it on back of CT. But if my tow was 3/4 ton pick-up or bigger and CT was 3500 or less I might. Only if bike was 300 or less too.

As long at the bike doesn't block your lights, I don't see a problem. I hauled a bike on a rear carrier back and forth across the country several times, and it wasn't a problem. Don't see any difference with the front as long as you have a hitch capable of 500 pounds and your lights can be seen...

I've welded a hitch receiver into my frame, it isn't that difficult and should be more than strong enough

I've wanted one for the same reason, a river-shuttle bike. Just haven't gotten around to having someone put one on. My bike and the hitch probably wouldn't weigh too much more than the battery I have on the tongue. Might even balance things out perfect and reduce the tongue weight back to "normal."

Well you can get bolt on receivers for rear bumper on TTs, BUT specifically for carrying a bike, you can get a bike rack that bolts on the same way, but at two more widely spread points, taking a lot of slop and mechanical fatigue out of the equation. Swagman is one brand I can recall, but tending toward pricey.

Well bugger, can't find an example of one now, can only find the multipoint one for multiple bicycles, not a motorbike.

I'd be tempted to do custom work, get two bolt on receivers, two cheapass MC carriers, cut and weld them together to make a 2 prong mounting one... It's not so much the weight as the oscillation of said weight about a single point that makes me want to "overengineer" it.

Dirt bike to me is a motorcycle, not a bicycle. I may be over cautious but again Id not place one on back of CT. But I could see a bicycle or 2 back there. Some use the cycle carriers (no trailer) and have had issues. That's the reason I wanted a CT conversion. But if determined here is the combo I referred to- with my bicycle and kayak trailer.

I'm pretty torn. I was thinking the advantage of rear receiver carry would combat the tendency to make the trailer front-heavy with batteries and the like. Doesn't sound like a lot of consensus on that approach.

Front receiver is far and away the most elegant solution except for the headlight issue. I've seen them with varying amounts of headlight interference. I'm thinking since I have a fairly aggressive stance on a Z71 Tahoe, that down could be the way to go in the terms of a drop receiver adapter. I don't think I'd need a tremendous amount of clearance in that configuration - in fact I have a drop axle trailer. so say an 8" drop or more would be fine for clearance and cure the headlight problem.

Mine goes between your truck and your CTC if you look closely it has a receiver in the end. its plenty strong enough for a CTC. i use to use this type of extention with my 10.5' camper when i pulled a 20' trailer with my sandrail. i used the same extension and just did some fabricating. This is mine i have a 3 rail trailer but my 4 yr old just got a PW50 but i built it big enough to accommodate a large bike in case my boys ever want to bring a friend riding.
