I found an absolutely brilliant cutting board and waste basket combo.

Looks nice....but I see at least three problems. Fist, you you have to sacrifice drawer space...look at all the hollow space under the board. Second, how would you wash it? Third, the cutting board (which is hard to wash) is right above a bacteria factory.

So, to address the issues that Gerry pointed out, make the same setup to fit over a sink bowl. Place a catch bowl in the sink under the hole in the board ( you are going to compost those veggi scraps or maybe feed them to the chickens, right?). The board stores normally, as does the bowl. Easy to clean and no lost drawer or cabinet space.

This got me to rethinking the foot stool storage hassock idea. Pinned in a rack or between exposed studs they can become shelves. Arranged on the floor with the padded seat in place they are the couch or individual seating and shoved together again the bed. What a great idea.

That hassock set up is a good idea, but with a couple of caveats,
based on past experience with a similar set up. First, it is very important
that the hassocks would be mechanically joined together somehow so that
they do not come apart. Gravity and friction alone will not do it. Second,
it is imperative that the foam padded tops are also securely located so
that they can not move when used for sitting and sleeping. If they are not
secured, they are guaranteed to separate/move and go to the side and you
will end up laying on the plywood top or in the hassock.
