*PICS* Freedom 6x14 finally here! The build begins!

Postby Gunman9 » Mon May 18, 2015 8:03 pm

Well my custom trailer finally came in. The green tap you see on the floor is where a twin daybed will go. Since I'm single and no kids it's for me only. The door on the V is for a window AC. Any recommendations on taking the trim off? Also they caulked every seam which is nice not sure if this is normal. I'm also building a small couch to watch tv since I got the King Jack TV antenna. I plan on putting down laminate floors and installing a small kitchen area for a sink.

Looks promising!

I did a similar thing with the AC, but I got it top hinged to serve as a weather-resistant awning of sorts when the AC was in place.

Ya I kinda assumed that they all were top hinged and didn't specify. Oh well I may cut a piece of sheet metal and rig something up if it becomes a problem when camped.

Actually - if you want it top-hinged it should be easy enough to change. I speced top-hinged, got there to pick it up, it was side-hinged. They pulled out the caulk with a pocketknife, zipped out the screws, turned it, and put it back in. Took all of ten minutes. That's assuming it's square, of course.

Did not know that khigh. I'll keep that in mind if I need to change it. Has anyone figured out and effective way to put a bed in a 6ft trailer width wise? The more I think about it I like the idea of using e track with the 2x4 mounts but my trailer is only 70" wide and that's pretty tight even though I'm only 5'9

Khigh what did you use for the window ac mounting bolts with the gender washers and how did you attach them? I thought about building a cabinet where the unit can slide in and out of but since I would be able to reach the door latch that way it's a no go.

Love the look of your trailer Gunman9... Liking the options you got it ordered with. Will be following along this build for sure as I begin my 5x10 conversion.

Darn if I can remember the name of them, but they're screws on one end and studs on the other. got them at regular old Home Depot. You drill your pilot hole and then put two nuts on the stud end and use the outermost one to turn. It locks against the second one and turns the stud.

I'll follow up if I can ever remember the name of them.

Nice I'm going use your method and hang a rack there I can secure it to when traveling to I can move it in and out of the cargo door. Did you drill yours into the framing? Thanks!

You know - can you open it from the outside? That's the only way mine opens - with a key.

I like the completely removable approach so I can leave it at home. It only takes a matter of a minute or so to but it up and I only wind up really needing about three wingnuts. Just make sure and use oversized holes if you do it that way.

Ya my cargo door has the same latch on it as the main door. They are both RV latches. Has its own set of keys and can be opened and locked from inside and outside.
