Jeremy from Wisconsin

Hi all!

My want to build a teardrop/ tiny travel trailer started well over a year ago. Looking back I believe it was when I met the owner of TC Teardrops at Canoeacopia. I liked how simple yet useful they are. I could go on and on but it all comes down to the want to get this creation going. I am finishing up the restoration of a ShopSmith Mark V "Greenie" and intend to make great use of it for this project. I am very excited about reading this forum and getting my design figured out and materials list going. I am a giant so I am leaning towards a larger design. For reference I am 6'5" and my wife is only a few inches short of 6'. Plus I'd like to leave enough room for a bunk... Newly married and thinking of the future here.

Anyhow thanks to the admins and contributers to this forum!

Jeremy,

Thanks for asking about size. 6'3" myself. BTW, welcome. I'll be interested in responses to that tidbit.

Hi Jeremy,

Welcome to the fun! I'm 6'2" tall so we went with a 4'x10' design with a full extra long custom mattress (Queen length). You might need a couple more inches in length depending how you sleep and what profile you decide on. I think that anything with a flat front or slightly curved will give you those inches. I'm slowly restoring a 'greenie' Mark V too. Shopsmith's are wonderful machines, I wish I had it restored for my build. Don't be shy around here; lots of great folks with years of experience to share.

All the Best,

Dave

Dave,

Oh my goodness! You are amazing! I just finished reading your AT build forum late last night. Your craftsmanship and planning throughout the project was top notch! I intend to make a full size cardboard model soon so I can get to the drawing board. I am aiming for similar size and super light weight but still want the trailer to be bullet proof. For reference what gauges steel did you use for the frame? You mentioned you could go lighter but no real specifics as to how much lighter. I have seriously thought about using the HF 4x8 trailer but feel it would want to change so much to not make it worth it. I really like the design of your trailer particularly the tabs for fastening the cabin down.

Gosh so many things running through my head! I am also a mountain biker and really want to design a tiny storage room for the bikes (2-wife's and mine). Major money is invested in them and I do not like the idea of leaving them out to the elements. I plan storage mode for the bikes to be front wheel removed and handlebars turned sideways. This allows for a tight cabin space. I like the idea of putting them in front of the cabin. I would like to retain the double arc __(bikes(cabin) I am thinking of building a woodie. max weight I am thinking being 1200 lbs loaded.

Sorry for the scrambled thoughts

Welcome to the site Jeremy from Southern Wisconsin,
I also met Todd and Carole at Canoecopia ( I'm a canoe'r and kayaker), super nice people and great to talk to. With this project you will get alot of use with your Shop Smith  making sawdust and wood chips.
Have fun designing and building. There's alot of info and helpful people on this site.
