Let the Game Begin!

Postby TrailerEd » Fri May 22, 2015 11:28 pm

After much lurking on this site. Many crazy questions and some real research and pondering. I have committed to a build.
Build #1 is a credit to the fine people here on this site. To all who answered my posts in, "Wooden Frames" I must say, Thank You!
I am not building a wooden frame unfortunately on the first build out of the gate. But I was inspired by a photo sent to build my version of a Serro Scotty Sportsman Jr. Tear Drop. I am excited and today was the day to begin. We picked up steel tubing for the frame and lumber for the shell. Tomorrow is D Day to start the shell while the frame is being welded. I will keep you posted as best my old mind can remember to take some pictures.
I do want to thank all who replied to my posts and comments. I am grateful to have found such a wonderful group of people here to guide and direct a newbie. Your experience and insight has inspired me to jump on this and get one on the road!
More to come!!!!

This is where I am headed! Can't wait to see the out come! I only hope my build can inspire someone else.

I am using .040 colored aluminum sheets that I can get right near me in Springfield, MO. Haven't totally decided for sure but the plan is to colored metal sides and a old fashion vinyl top? Like an old car!

Well today was a good day in the shop. Made some progress I could really see today.
Finished shaping the sides and routing out for the roof spars and floor.

Got the floor set up on rolling cabinet benches so I can move it around to work on.

Cut out the interior divider panels and counter top blank and started putting the box together on the floor. Truth is I just wanted to see it start taking shape so I temp'd it together so I could see the shape of it all in real life! I am liking it so far!

I like the shape and low profile, vintage look. Funny, when you are standing, looking at it, it seems small from the outside, but when you look inside, there seems to be ample space! I am glad cause the wife said, "Looks so big inside, I will not get claustrophobic!" I thought, but did not comment, Well that's a good thing cause it is the size it is!
Not sure if I ever posted the size? It is 5' x 8'.
If you look close, like real close, you can see a faint red line that outlines the door and window.

I get into it so much that I am not sure why I need sleep! Just want to keep working on it at this point, because it is starting to take shape!
Hope you all can see what I see in it at this point.
Thanks for reading! More to come!

Looking great! I've always liked that profile.
Maybe next build...

That is a nice look! These trailers are so great, as they allow each person to fully customize everything about them, while maintaining a similar prime design. That prime design(s) allows us to learn from what others have done. I would have never started on mine without this site and fine people.

Thanks!
I am hoping too. We are planning to be on the road with this around the 18th of June. Hope it all comes together for us. Want to get on the road and then up for sale real soon. Like a lot of things I am waiting on UPS shipping time more than anything. But it is rolling very nicely at this point. :)
